Jun 19, Anne rated it really liked it Shelves: comics X-Force: Necrosha, graphic- novelsread-inread-in Re-read Ok, so this is the more complete version of the Necrosha event than what you'll get in Vol 4 of the X-Force. And while I didn't realize it the first time around, those other stories from the New Mutants and X-men are really an important part of what X- Force: Necrosha this a good compilation. Now, I did still find the non-X-Force stuff at the end less interesting than the main storyline. But I found it more interesting than I originally did. If that makes sense? My biggest criticism would be that t Re-read Ok, so this is the more complete version of the Necrosha event than what you'll get in Vol 4 of the X-Force. My biggest criticism would be that the layout of book is somewhat X-Force: Necrosha up. The Necrosha story is fine, but then you have extra stories thrown in after the Necrosha story is over And the issue that showed how Selene recruited her inner circle was also put in after it was over. It ended on a silly note with a Deadpool vs Necrosha story. Overall, this was still one of my favorite events, and definitely my favorite mutant event so far. From start to finish I had a lot of fun re-reading this, and you can't always say that with comics because some of them X-Force: Necrosha don't hold up well. Definitely recommended! Original review: view spoiler [ X-Force: Necrosha stars for X-Force stuff. The selling point for the entire volume for me was the conclusion of the X-Force storyline that I'd been following. This picks up after X-Force, Vol. Clayton Crain 's artwork X-Force: Necrosha a stunning must-see, and possibly the main reason that I loved this so much. After the X-Force stuff is over with, though, my attention sort of wandered. There are some one-shots about different mutants who come back from the dead and what happens to them afterward. It was okbut I didn't know enough about them or how they originally died to really care much. The ending stuff with the X-Men may have been more interesting to me if I hadn't already read most of it before. I'm not sure when I read it, but I recognized the story. It was ok. But X-Force: Necrosha lack of knowledge when it comes to what's been going on with these guys was so poor that I couldn't really get into it. Maybe if you'd been following these X-Events more closely than I had you might enjoy the last few issues in X-Necrosha X-Force: Necrosha than I did. Fans of X-Force should love this! I didn't particularly like the concept behind this story as I'm not a fan of resurrection as a plot device. If you don't let dead characters stay dead then death loses all its impact. Having said this, there were some really nice character moments to be had here. Unfortunately, there was X-Force: Necrosha real crap, too. The same goes for the artwork, sadly. Honestly, I X-Force: Necrosha they stretched this story out too much by having it encompass nineteen issues. Six issues would have been fine Jan 21, Mike rated X-Force: Necrosha it was ok. If that's the premier story in this arc, they should've sent it back to the minors for retraining. The X-Force story finally ends well, but it sure X-Force: Necrosha it's sweet time getting up out of the Final Crisis-like muck.     Page 1 of 30 The motivational mind of Magneto: towards Jungian discourse analysis Jacquelyn Seerattan-Waldrom Supervised by: Dr Geoff Bunn April 2016 Page 2 of 30 The motivational mind of Magneto: towards Jungian discourse analysis ABSTRACT Discourse analysis has been a prominent area of psychology for 25 years. It traditionally focuses on society’s influence on the world through the rhetoric (implicit persuasion) and symbolism, dealing with important psychological areas such as ‘identity’ and many social justice issues. Graphic novel analyses is also increasingly more common. Social justice issues are especially prominent in analysis: particularly in X- Men, through metaphors of ‘oppression’, ‘sexuality and identity’ (Zullo, 2015). Psycho-discursive analysis focuses on the 'subject' neglected in traditional discourse analysis, which has been provided recent attention. A Freudian and Jungian psycho-discursive analysis of DC comic character, 'Batman' has been studied regarding motivation and psyche (Langley, 2012). However, ‘reflexivity’ in Freudian psycho-discursive analysis is a known problem that previous psycho-discursive analyses have been unable to tackle effectively. Therefore, this study proposed a step towards Jungian psycho-discursive analysis adapted from personality and motivation theory, ‘Psychological Types’ (1971) and theoretical expansions by Myers and Myers (1995). It was applied to fictional representations of psyche within the X-Men comic character, ‘Magneto’, due to fictional inspirations which commonly form Jungian theory. Magneto was interpreted as the type, ‘INTJ’, and future implications of further applications to psyche are discussed.     Breakthrough and Concealment: The Formulaic Dynamics of Character Behavior in Lucan Howard Chen Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2012 © 2012 Howard Chen All rights reserved ABSTRACT Breakthrough and Concealment: The Formulaic Dynamics of Character Behavior in Lucan Howard Chen This dissertation analyzes the three main protagonists of Lucan’s Bellum Civile through their attempts to utilize, resist, or match a pattern of action which I call the “formula.” Most evident in Caesar, the formula is a cycle of alternating states of energy that allows him to gain a decisive edge over his opponents by granting him the ability of perpetual regeneration. However, a similar dynamic is also found in rivers, which thus prove to be formidable adversaries of Caesar in their own right. Although neither Pompey nor Cato is able to draw on the Caesarian formula successfully, Lucan eventually associates them with the river-derived variant, thus granting them a measure of resistance (if only in the non-physical realm). By tracing the development of the formula throughout the epic, the dissertation provides a deeper understanding of the importance of natural forces in Lucan’s poem as well as the presence of an underlying drive that unites its fractured world.
