Please see inside for more information.

A great place to live and work.

Find us online www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk Activity Programmes aimed at over 50 year olds! Try something new and exciting! Feel the benefits of exercise! Reasonable prices! Something for everyone! Different Locations around Central ! Welcome…

Central Bedfordshire welcomes you to our first edition of the Fit 4 Life 50 plus booklet.

This will bring you information on a variety of activities and tips to help adults lead a healthier and active lifestyle.

The Community Physical Activity Team for wants to encourage as many 50 plus adults as possible to get up on their feet and get moving. Whether this is going on a healthy walk or attending an exercise class.

It is recommended that adults should aim to be active daily. Over a week, activity should add up to at least 150 minutes (2½ hours) of moderate intensity activity in bouts of 10 minutes or more – one way to approach this is to do 30 minutes on at least 5 days a week.

All courses are lead by well trained and enthusiastic leaders, ensuring a fun and safe environment.

Some of the activities in this booklet have been part subsidised by partnership funding.

Fit4life 50 plus 7 Walk 4 health

Walk 4 Health programmes run throughout Central Bedfordshire. These individual programmes are led by trained volunteer Health Walk Leaders.

Health walks are regular walks which are free and open to all – though aimed particularly at people who are presently doing little or no exercise – and usually last for about an hour.

People are encouraged to walk at their own pace, safe in the knowledge that they are walking with trained leaders.

At the end of the walk we encourage walkers to socialise – therefore many of our walks end where people can have a coffee and a chat.

Fit4life 50 plus 21 Need some help with transport?

Beds Rural Communities Charity (BRCC) works with residents throughout Central Beds to set up local groups of volunteers that can give occasional lifts and other local support to fellow residents without close family or friends there to help. Volunteers are fully insured and DBS (old CRB) checked. Most help is free, except for expenses such as petrol or parking, but any donations are gratefully accepted.

Groups currently run in 40 villages and towns across Central Beds with new ones in the pipeline. Check your parish magazine/website or village noticeboards for details – or contact BRCC for more information.

If after taking part in these fitness opportunities you feel so good that you might like to use some of your new extra energy helping your community, your local good neighbour group would love to hear from you. New volunteers are always very welcome and there is a whole range of activities you can choose to do. Who knows – perhaps next year you could be making a big difference to someone’s health giving a lift to a resident near you and enabling them to take part in an exercise class like the ones you enjoy this year!
