Reasonable prices! Something for everyone! Different Locations around Central Bedfordshire! Welcome… Central Bedfordshire welcomes you to our first edition of the Fit 4 Life 50 plus booklet. This will bring you information on a variety of activities and tips to help adults lead a healthier and active lifestyle. The Community Physical Activity Team for Central Bedfordshire wants to encourage as many 50 plus adults as possible to get up on their feet and get moving. Whether this is going on a healthy walk or attending an exercise class. It is recommended that adults should aim to be active daily. Over a week, activity should add up to at least 150 minutes (2½ hours) of moderate intensity activity in bouts of 10 minutes or more – one way to approach this is to do 30 minutes on at least 5 days a week. All courses are lead by well trained and enthusiastic leaders, ensuring a fun and safe environment. Some of the activities in this booklet have been part subsidised by partnership funding. 0300 300 8305 [email protected] www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/healthierlifestyles www.facebook.com/letstalkcentral Fit4life 50 plus 3 4 www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/healthierlifestyles Walking football Walking Football is a new exciting version of the beautiful game and is ideal for the over 50’s or players returning to the game following injury. These individual programmes are led by trained volunteer Health Walk Leaders. Health walks are regular walks which are free and open to all – though aimed particularly at people who are presently doing little or no exercise – and usually last for about an hour. People are encouraged to walk at their own pace, safe in the knowledge that they are walking with trained leaders. At the end of the walk we encourage walkers to socialise – therefore many of our walks end where people can have a coffee and a chat. • Dunstable and the Surrounding Area
Dunstable and the surrounding area Excellent transport links between St. Pancras and Luton Parkway railway stations means Dunstable is easily reached from London. Excellent road links mean Cambridge is easily accessible and Luton Airport puts Dunstable in touch with cities from all over Europe Dunstable is the oldest charter town in Bedfordshire and is currently home to approximately 36,000 residents, who regularly elect their own Town Council and Central Bedfordshire Council representatives to manage local affairs. Dunstable is fiercely proud of its rich heritage yet, whilst it may be steeped in history, it is very much a town in the present, working towards a bright future. The Grove theatre which opened in 2007 provides Dunstable with a 780-seat purpose built arts and entertainment centre. The development which includes accompanying bars and restaurants overlooking the beautiful re-landscaped Grove House Gardens, provides a striking heart to the cultural identity of the area and a venue for a variety of events. Priory House Heritage and Tourist Information Centre also offers a full programme of entertainment and exhibitions as well as an insight into Dunstable’s amazing past. ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, formerly known as Whipsnade Wild Animal Park, is a zoo and safari park located at Whipsnade, near Dunstable in Bedfordshire. It is one of two zoos that are owned by the Zoological Society of London, a charity devoted to the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. Neighboring Luton is the home to Stockwood Park Discovery Centre and Wardown Park and Museum both of these are well worth a visit and are accessible by public transport.
