He was able to get baskets and help his team to victories and became an eight-time All-Star playing for the West. Whenever he played on the court he would always try his best to lead his team to victories. He also is a great man off and on the court. 3 Steve Nash’s Childhood! Have you ever wondered what Steve Nash’s life was like before he started to play in the NBA? Well, you came to the right place here we will be talking about his childhood before he became a popular Canadian in the NBA! That will include where he was born, where he stayed to live most of his life. He had an incredible childhood growing up let’s get started! Steve Nash was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1974. Later then he moved to Regina when he was around 18 months then he finally settled in Victoria, BC. He didn’t start to play basketball as much until he was 12 or 13. But when he started he became good at the sport and practiced for quite a bit. He practiced tirelessly to make it to the NBA that would’ve taken a lot of dedication. If Steve Nash started to play when he was younger he probably would be better than he is right now. If he practiced every day and harder he could probably be a whole other level of basketball. I hope Steve Nash is having a good retirement right now. 4 Before NBA Career! Have you ever wondered where Steve Nash went to get some knowledge of basketball and where he learned his amazing gameplay? Or even if he had a passion for basketball since he was a very young child? Well if you never knew yet you came to the right place! Here I will be talking about all the things I just listed. Steve Nash went to school at Santa Clara University, St.Micheals, and Mount Douglas Secondary, in Santa Clara University that is where he first started to play basketball and he has hidden footage of him dunking at that university. When he started to play basketball he didn’t start when he was young like you thought he would. He started when he was around 12 or 13. Did you think that Steve Nash always had a passion for basketball? He didn’t play basketball until he was 12 or 13 he was normally playing soccer he only started playing a lot of basketball around this time. Wow, I thought he would’ve started to practice when he was like 6 or 7 due to his amazing performance. It was cool to know where he went to school so I can go to them and see what kind of training they do to get better at basketball. I will try my best to get to the NBA as Steve Nash did. 5 Steve Nash’s Draft Did you ever wonder when Steve Nash was drafted and what team? The team drafted picked a good player, he made a huge impact for Canadians to try and make it to the NBA. Now there are a bit more Canadians that play in the NBA like RJ Barret and Andrew Wiggins and many more players that Steve Nash inspired to get better and make it to the NBA. Steve Nash was drafted to the NBA in 1996. The Phoenix Suns drafted Steve Nash his number was 13 in the Phoenix Suns. Steve Nash was around 22 years old when he was drafted, you thought he played when he was young like Lebron. He played with the Phoenix Suns for 2 years and came back in the 2004 season. He was a good player in his first season. He played as hard as he could and showed how good he can play. He always would show his limits and if he started when he was even younger he probably would be way better than he is now. 6 Steve Nash’s Teams Have you ever wondered what teams Steve Nash was on? Well, you came to the right place! Here I will be talking about what teams he was on and what team drafted him! I hope you're excited! The Phoenix Suns drafted Steve Nash, he stayed with the Suns for 2 years. Then he went to the Dallas Mavericks he played with them for 6 years. After Dallas, he came back to the Suns for 8 years until he went to the Lakers. He played for the Lakers for only 3 years. If Steve Nash didn’t have any back injuries he could probably play in the NBA longer. Steve Nash will be once known as one of the best Canadian Basketball players. I hope Steve Nash is having a good retirement. 7 Steve Nash’s Family One thing that made Steve Nash the personality he has now is his family. He is such a kind, loving man to his family that’s what makes him a kind human being. He is such a humble person in and outside an NBA court. No matter where he goes he is kind and happy wherever he goes. Steve Nash has a daughter named Lola she has a twin sister Bella Nash they were born on October 14th,2004 their mother at the time was Alejandra. Steve Nash had a son named Luca Sun Nash he was born in 2017 he is now 2 years old his mother was Lilla Fredrick. Steve Nash has another son named Matteo Joel Nash he was born on November 12th, 2010 his mother was Alejandra at the time. He had an ex-wife Alejandra Amarilla their relation lasted for 6 years. Steve Nash now has a new wife in 2016 Lilla Fredrick. His parents are John and Jean Nash they died in a taxi, which they collided with another vehicle in 2015. Steve Nash has a lot of family members! He would be always happy when he has grandchildren due to having 4 kids. Steve Nash’s family makes a big impact on his personality. Steve Nash is probably having fun with whatever he is doing right now! 8 Steve Nash’s Popularity Have you ever wondered what Steve Nash was famous for? • Renormalizing Individual Performance Metrics for Cultural Heritage Management of Sports Records
Renormalizing individual performance metrics for cultural heritage management of sports records Alexander M. Petersen1 and Orion Penner2 1Management of Complex Systems Department, Ernest and Julio Gallo Management Program, School of Engineering, University of California, Merced, CA 95343 2Chair of Innovation and Intellectual Property Policy, College of Management of Technology, Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland. (Dated: April 21, 2020) Individual performance metrics are commonly used to compare players from different eras. However, such cross-era comparison is often biased due to significant changes in success factors underlying player achievement rates (e.g. performance enhancing drugs and modern training regimens). Such historical comparison is more than fodder for casual discussion among sports fans, as it is also an issue of critical importance to the multi- billion dollar professional sport industry and the institutions (e.g. Hall of Fame) charged with preserving sports history and the legacy of outstanding players and achievements. To address this cultural heritage management issue, we report an objective statistical method for renormalizing career achievement metrics, one that is par- ticularly tailored for common seasonal performance metrics, which are often aggregated into summary career metrics – despite the fact that many player careers span different eras. Remarkably, we find that the method applied to comprehensive Major League Baseball and National Basketball Association player data preserves the overall functional form of the distribution of career achievement, both at the season and career level. As such, subsequent re-ranking of the top-50 all-time records in MLB and the NBA using renormalized metrics indicates reordering at the local rank level, as opposed to bulk reordering by era.

  • Forecasting Most Valuable Players of the National Basketball Association
FORECASTING MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS OF THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION by Jordan Malik McCorey A thesis submitted to the faculty of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Engineering Management Charlotte 2021 Approved by: _______________________________ Dr. Tao Hong _______________________________ Dr. Linquan Bai _______________________________ Dr. Pu Wang ii ©2021 Jordan Malik McCorey ALL RIGHTS RESERVED iii ABSTRACT JORDAN MALIK MCCOREY. Forecasting Most Valuable Players of the National Basketball Association. (Under the direction of DR. TAO HONG) This thesis aims at developing models that would accurately forecast the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the National Basketball Association (NBA). R programming language was used in this study to implement different techniques, such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), K- Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Linear Regression Models (LRM). NBA statistics were extracted from all of the past MVP recipients and the top five runner-up MVP candidates from the last ten seasons (2009-2019). The objective is to forecast the Point Total Ratio (PTR) for MVP during the regular season. Seven different underlying models were created and applied to the three techniques in order to produce potential outputs for the 2018-19 season. The best models were then selected and optimized to form the MVP forecasting algorithm, which was validated by predicting the MVP of the 2019-20 season. Ultimately, two underlying models were most robust under the LRM framework, which is considered the champion approach. As a result, two combination models were constructed based on the champion approach and proved to be most efficient.

  • NBA's REVIVAL IS PURE MAGIC by Michael Wilbon
NEWSLETTER #23 - 2005-06 NBA'S REVIVAL IS PURE MAGIC By Michael Wilbon Don't get me wrong, the NBA has had great teams since Michael Jordan retired from the Chicago Bulls after the 1997-98 season. The San Antonio Spurs teams, particularly the ones with Tim Duncan and David Robinson, could hold their own in any era. The Lakers of Phil Jackson, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant were, at times, dominating and entertaining. And although great team play usually is enough to maximize interest in pro football and Major League Baseball, that simply isn't the case with professional basketball. The NBA has been, is now, and probably always will be a league driven by and dependent on its star power. It's been that way from Mikan and Cousy to Russell and Chamberlain to Oscar and West to Kareem and Julius to Bird and Magic to Sir Charles and M.J. to Shaq and Kobe. The greatest team in NBA history -- the 1992 Dream Team -- never even played a single league contest or a game of consequence on U.S. soil but was the most star-studded team ever put together anywhere. So there's a very easy answer to the questions of why these NBA playoffs have been so compelling, why TV ratings have been up and why there's a buzz about the NBA Finals in a way there hasn't been since Jordan's second retirement. After seven seasons of trying to convince fans that certain players were stars, the league has enjoyed a postseason where its most recognizable players led teams into the playoffs, then played the way stars historically have in the NBA.
