She was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws by The University of Wollongong (1995) and the University of Sydney (2000). Since retiring from the Federal Court in 2001, Jane has been an Acting Judge on the Supreme Court of NSW, a position she still holds. She has also held appointments as Acting Judge of the Supreme Courts of Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. She has always had a close interest in women in the law, and in 1992 founded the Australian Association of Women Judges.
