PRE – FEASIBILITY STUDY OF PROPOSED QUARDUPLING OF VIRAR – DAHANU ROAD SECTION 33.. ALINMENT PLANNING 3.1 INTRODUCTION Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) through Phase – III of MUTP has plans to commission regular suburban rail services up to Dahanu Road and accordingly quadrupling of tracks between Virar to Dahanu Raod is one of the important project (Figure 1.1). MRVC have commissioned the services of M/s RITES Ltd. to undertake the pre-feasibility of constructing additional lines between Virar to Dahanu Road. Preliminary survey was carried out during 1996 for provision of two lines (3rd and 4th) from Virar to Dahanu Road for the proposed extension of suburban services and these lines were proposed to run on the east side of the existing tracks. As per latest planning , Dedicated Freight Corridor alignment joins to the existing VR – DRD section on East side of existing track at Km 65.87 (between VR-VTN) and continues parallel to existing corridor up to DRD . The two additional lines for quadrupling of existing corridor are, therefore, being proposed on West side of the existing lines. The proposed lines passes through all the existing stations. This chapter covers the alignment proposals for quadrupling on Virar – Dahanu Road section of Western Railway. 3.2 GENRAL DETAILS At present there are double line exist between Virar – Dahanu Road section and the purpose of this pre-feasibility report is to set out tentative alignment proposals for the quadrupling of section and generally in Railway’s ROW. Corridor from Virar to Dahanu Road lies in administrative jurisdiction of Western Railway and falls in Thane District of Maharashtra. Quadrupling of lines in this section is considered for introduction/extension of suburban services from Virar to Dahanu Road section. Virar – Dahanu Road does not fall under MMR. it’s location, however, with reference to western suburbs (where WR suburban services are extended) have induced the growth over the years. Many large and medium-scaled industries have come up due to relative easier land availability, encouraging the physical and economic growth of this belt. Due to alignment of two new lines for quadrupling being proposed on West side of the existing lines, and being proposed for catering to suburban services, new platforms meant for suburban services are required to be constructed at these stations. Fifth ROB has been completed over Railway Track at North End of Island Platform No. 6&7 at Virar. The details of ROB are as follows; i. ROB between Virar – Vaitarna: ROB has been constructed at Km 60.160 Km over Railway Track at North End of Island Platform No. 6&7 at Virar. The approach road to ROB is yet to be completed. Adequate spans are provided on either side for future track alignment. DRAFT FINAL REPORT FEBRUARY 2013 CHAPTER 3: Page 4 ALIGNMENT PLANNING PRE – FEASIBILITY STUDY OF PROPOSED QUARDUPLING OF VIRAR – DAHANU ROAD SECTION ii. ROB between Saphale – Kelve Road: ROB 22.5 m span exist at 78.50 Km. 8.8 m space is available from DN ML & UP ML. As it is feasible to align one track in the space available, it is proposed to construct one additional span by insertion of RCC Box for the second track on west side. iii. ROB between Palghar – Umroli: ROB exist at 91.763 Km. Additional spans do not exist for alignment of two additional track required for quadrupling of VR-DRD section. Additional space for two tracks is proposed on west side by insertion of RCC BOX. iv. ROB between Umroli – Boisar: ROB exists at 101.66 Km. Additional spans do exist for alignment of two additional tracks required for quadrupling of VR-DRD section. DRAFT FINAL REPORT FEBRUARY 2013 CHAPTER 3: Page 5 ALIGNMENT PLANNING PRE – FEASIBILITY STUDY OF PROPOSED QUARDUPLING OF VIRAR – DAHANU ROAD SECTION v. ROB between Vangaon – Dahanu Road: ROB has been constructed at Km 123.29 Km SOUTH SIDE OF Dahanu Road station. Additional spans do exist for alignment of two additional track required for quadrupling of VR-DRD section. Since the proposed new tracks are terminated at 2.224 Km ahead of DRD station, there is no additional space required at this location. 3.5 BRIDGES: The total number of bridges on the projected alignment are 82 Nos, grouped as 2 Important Bridges, 18 Major Bridges and 64 Minor Bridges (inclusive of Pipe crossings) between Virar to Dahanu Road section. The estimate for Important & Major Bridges has been prepared by actual calculation of quantities based on typical drawings and for Minor Bridges, the bridges are divided into groups according to span, height and barrel length and typical calculation for each group are made. The linear waterway in meter is as under; i. Important Bridges 753.91 m ii. Major Bridges 555.73 m DRAFT FINAL REPORT FEBRUARY 2013 CHAPTER 3: Page 6 ALIGNMENT PLANNING PRE – FEASIBILITY STUDY OF PROPOSED QUARDUPLING OF VIRAR – DAHANU ROAD SECTION iii. Minor Bridges 273.60 m Total 1583.24 m Dry stone pitching is proposed on the approaches of Important & Major bridges at the locations where there is history of flooding of track. The details of Bridges are as follows; 3.5.1 IMPORTANT BRIDGES: i. South Vaitarna Bridge: Bridge No. 92 located between Vaitarna & Saphale at Km. 69/2-16 on South Vaitarna River. It has 19 spans of 18.02 m and one span of 9.15 m. DFCCIL has proposed 20 spans of 19.30 m for the proposed DFC corridor on East side of the existing bridge. ii. North Vaitarna Bridge: Bridge No. 93 located between Vaitarna & Saphale at Km. 70/12-16 and is of 22 spans of 18.29 m. DFCCIL has proposed 23 spans of 19.30 m for the proposed DFC corridor on East side of the existing bridge. Construction of new bridge at Vaitarna North creek is under progress for DFC corridor.
