Tidings Bethlehem Catholic High School & The Class of 1970 Alumni Newsletter July 2021 Circulation 3,500 plus July is Here (Already) Class of 1970’s Reunion Update We sent out information for hotels to all those who indicated an interest in a hotel in their Survey responses. We have also secured rooms at 4 hotels at discounted prices and suggested that reservations should be made ASAP due to the crush of reservations for the Celtic Festival, Weddings and Lafayette Jr. class Parents Weekend. Invitations will be emailed after July 4th. The Class of 1970’s “Gold ‘n One” Reunion committee’s goal is to have as many classmates as possible attend. If for some reason you missed the survey to gage attendance, but will attend, just contact George Kane (610-421-6444 or [email protected]) so the committee can plan accordingly. By the way, I listed those who responded to the survey (so far) and 72 indicated they were planning or thinking about attending… I put the list at the end of this newsletter. Marie “Anita” Lyons Strunk-McGee ‘60, who was also the mother of Theresa Strunk ’81, Patricia Strunk ‘84, Jeff and Tracey, passed away 06/09. Jacob Miller, who is also the father of Diane ’69 and Ray ’73, passed away on 06/04. Thomas Baur passed away on 05/27. Father Daniel B. Powell, D.D. was the Rector of Holy Infancy parish Father Joseph V. Sangmeister, J.C.D., LL.D. was Principal Father John J. Nawn, A.B. was Vice-Principal and taught religion Father Vincent I. Cronin, A.B., was the Athletic Director and taught religion and Latin Teachers: Sister M. Agnes Consilii, S.S.J., taught religion, music and dramatics Sister M. Cordata, S.S.J., taught art, business education, science and Spanish Sister Irma Loreto, S.S.J., taught art and math Sister M. Louis Bertrand, S.S.J., taught math Sister M. Margaret Teresa, S.S.J., taught social studies Sister Marie Matthew, S.S.J., taught Latin and French Sister M. Michael Cecilia, S.S.J., taught commercial studies Sister Regina Pacis, S.S.J., taught English Sister M. Rita Xavier, S.S.J., taught science Sister M. St. Winifred, S.S.J., taught English Mr. Joseph Saroka taught social studies Mr. Tony Sciarra was the custodian The Senior Play, “Our Hearts Were Young and Gay”, was performed in November, and followed the tradition of double casting the performers. The musical comedy “Plain and Fancy”, under the direction of Mr. Charles Kropp, was performed later in the year, and the Christmas pageant was traditionally held. The Glee Club entertained the audience during intermission of the senior play and during the Christmas pageant. Charles Terry was president of the Glee Club. The Student Association elected officers were… James Monek, President; Sandra Majczan, VP; and Kenneth Dick, Secretary Michael Chaback was the editor and Charles Terry was the sports editor of the Tidings, and Carolann Danko was the editor of the Sceptre. Baccalaureate Mass was celebrated in Holy Infancy Church in June. John McGeehan was inducted as a Distinguished Graduate in 2010. A 60th reunion is planned for Saturday, September 18th, and will be hosted by John and Gayle McGeehan’s ‘61 at their residence in Bethlehem. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
