COMMENDATIONS. Commends Alan Faneca on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 To commend Alan Faneca on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
3 Induction Class.
4 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and state of Louisiana have learned
5 of the prestigious honor bestowed upon Alan Faneca on his induction into the Louisiana
6 Sports Hall of Fame; and
7 WHEREAS, the inductees are chosen after extensive deliberations by a panel of
8 Louisiana Sports Writers' Association members from across the state who annually consider
9 more than one hundred twenty nominees for this honor; and
10 WHEREAS, Alan Faneca was born December 7, 1976, in New Orleans, Louisiana,
11 and after completing high school in Texas, joined the LSU Tiger Football Team in 1994; and
12 WHEREAS, during his successful career at LSU, he was named Southeastern
13 Conference freshman of the year by the Knoxville Sentinel in 1995, was selected as a
14 second-team All-American in 1996, and in 1997; and
15 WHEREAS, he was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American and was also
16 one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy; and
17 WHEREAS, after his stellar college football career, he was chosen in the first round
18 of the NFL draft as the 26th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers and went on to play ten

1 years with that team, two with the New York Jets, and one with the Arizona Cardinals; and
2 WHEREAS, during his professional football career he started two hundred and one
3 of two hundred and six games, played on the Steelers team that won Superbowl XL, was
4 named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-2000s team, was chosen to be on the Steelers'
5 seventy-fifth anniversary all-time team in 2007, was voted to nine consecutive Pro Bowls,
6 and was a six-time Associated Press All-Pro first team pick; and
7 WHEREAS, beyond his career as a star football player, Alan Faneca is a survivor of
8 epilepsy and devotes much of his time and energy doing charitable work for the Epilepsy
9 Foundation of America; and
10 WHEREAS, Alan Faneca possesses the character, skills, and talents worthy of being
11 named to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
13 commend and congratulate Alan Faneca on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall
14 of Fame Induction Class.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Alan
16 Faneca.
