Aumann, School of Arts and Sciences Welcome to the Alumni Association: Gloria Quadrini Birmingham '59 President, Cortland College Alumni Association Alma Mater: Graduating members of the Cortland College Singers Recessional: Dr. Wilson Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Robert Fitzpatrick, former president of Euro Disney in France for the past 12 years, will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters de- gree at today's Commencement ceremony. Euro Disney is a $4.4 billion theme park constructed east of Paris by the Walt Disney Company. The 5,000 acre amusement park was designed to attract an es- timated 11 million customers a year. The park opened in April 1992. Nominated by Cortland College's Honorary Degree Committee and endorsed by President James M. Clark, Fitzpatrick was approved for the award by the State University Board of Trustees. In supporting the campus nomination, President Clark said that Fitzpatrick "has clearly recognized the importance of building cultural, institutional, and disciplinary bridges in the contemporary world. " . Furthermore, he has devoted his life to encourag- Raben Fitzpatrick ing and enhancing the ability of others to develop the crucial sodal links and relationships req- uisite to a peaceful and vital world future," This past April, Fitzpatrick stepped down from his Euro Disney position to create an in- ternational consulting company in Paris. He continues to serve on the management board of Euro Disney. Fitzpatrick was born in Toronto, Canada, and became a U.S. citizen in 1962. He earned B.A. and M.A. degrees, both Magna Cum Laude, from Spring Hill College and Johns Hopkins University, respectively. He also studied as a Woodrow Wilson fellow at Johns Hopkins University. He was an assistant professor of French at the University of Maine at Orono from 1965 to 1968. He has been an administrator as well as a faculty member, having served as dean of students at Johns Hopkins from 1972 to 1975. In the field of politics, he served with the staff of the Eugene McCarthy National Cam- paign headquarters, and later served as a campaign aid to Senator Joseph D. Tydings. In 1975, Fitzpatrick was appointed president of the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. He resigned in 1987 to become chief executive officer of the Euro Dis- ney project in France. As part of his community activities, Fitzpatrick was vice president of the Los Angeles Mayor's Committee on Cultural Affairs, He headed the California Confederation of Arts and was director of the 1984 Olympics Arts Festival in Los Angeles, and the 1985-87 Los Angeles Festivals, In addition, Fitzpatrick was a trustee of the Los Angeles Craft and Folk Art Museum from 1976 to 1982 and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
