We have an action-packed line-up of classes and workshops for you Welcome 3 this autumn. There is something for everyone as we look ahead to the festive season. Community 4 / 5 In response to overwhelming demand we have added even Professional 6 more classes to our bumper ballet offering. There will be How we do it 7 an additional Ballet Vintage class while one of the current classes progresses to Ballet Vintage Improvers and on top How to book 8 / 9 of this, we are also introducing a second Ballet Absolute Beginners class. We hope these classes will allow more Pay It Forward 10 people to discover the beauty and grace of this timeless Hires 11 dance style. We are extremely excited to announce that this term we Workshops 11 / 12 / 13 have teamed up with Circus Alba to bring you Circus Skills Ballet 14 / 15 for children in P4 – 6. Learn acrobatics, juggling, hula hoop and much more. Celtic 16 / 17 This autumn will also be all about bringing together Contemporary 18 / 19 different cultures. Watch out for a workshop offering a taste of Scottish Step Dance as well as a series of special, Hip Hop 20 / 21 Scandinavian-influenced hip hop workshops as part of Jazz 22 / 23 our first ever NordDance festival. Just for Fun 24 / 25 In October, we will be working in partnership with Paragon Music to present M3 Rockit, a week-long community Partner Dances 26 / 27 residency giving disabled and non-disabled dancers the chance to collaborate and perform together. Finally, Scottish Tap 28 / 29 Ballet will be returning to Dance Base in November, Wellbeing offering the opportunity to explore their dazzling Christmas & Workout 30 / 31 production of Cinderella. World Dances 32 / 33 Whatever your style, we hope to see you here at Dance Base. You never know, we might also see you performing on the Young Dancers 34 / 35 / 36 Queen’s Hall stage in December for our Christmas Show! Over the next term we’re delighted to be working in partnership with internationally renowned physical theatre company, Frantic Assembly. During the autumn term, we’ll be holding taster workshops and trials for young men, giving them the chance to be part of the Ignition programme, Frantic Assembly’s national training programme for young men aged 16 – 20 years. Dates for tasters and trials will be announced soon so please keep an eye on our website. We are also developing partnerships with Alzheimer’s Scotland and the Festival Theatre to work in the area of Early Onset Dementia and we are collaborating with Scottish Ballet to create tailor-made dance classes for people with Parkinson’s Disease. Be on the lookout for audition notices for our Youth Dance Company, an exciting new group for dedicated, talented and creative young people who love to dance and perform. Everybody Dance Now! We are excited to be continuing our work with special schools in Edinburgh, running a series of dance and movement classes for disabled children. Each term we work with four different school groups, delivering a bespoke programme of dance, movement and music tailored to the needs of the school and the participants. I page 5 PROFESSIONAL PROG RAMME This term is all about the intangible things that make a dancer more than a dancer – the bracing realities of intercontinental exchanges, and some warm welcomes to old friends. Legendary artist Rosemary Butcher will be in residence this term, and will lead the October showcase. It’s a testament to the profound nature of her work that decades on, it is still fresh, innovative and surprising. So we have post-modern royalty in the house! We are also delighted to welcome Carlos Martínez, originally from Cuba but now based in Scotland, who will share his ideas and wonderful energy. The run up to NordDance (our Nordic/Scottish urban dance showcase) at the Traverse Theatre in late November sees Emma Park, Ashley Jack, Tony Mills and others pair up with Nordic hip hop artists to teach workshops in Waacking and Vogue, House and Hip Hop to name but a few. See p13 for details. Morag Deyes MBE Artistic Director PRIME PRIME is proud to be Scotland’s first semi-professional dance company for people over 60. Our radical new company enjoys performing progressive and creative choreography and, in doing so, empowering others to explore new possibilities in dance and in life. In October 2015, Dance Base and Scottish Ballet will join in partnership to pioneer a unique Scottish tour with companies comprised of elder dancers, as part of the Luminate Festival.
