Victoire Pisa stayed perfect beneath Mirco Demuro, who has ridden Japan=s champion three-year-old in each of his last three trips to post. Trailing the field in 14th the first time around the stands in the big one, the four-year-old made an eye-catching middle move on the outside to challenge Transcend for the lead down the backstraight. Victoire Pisa fought his way to the Andrew Watkins front after a thrilling stretch run, with the pacesetter gamely holding off the imposing late charge of Monterosso (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), Cape Blanco (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Gio Ponti (Tale of the Cat). AMy horse usually has a good start, but this time he hit his head in the stall and we had a bad start,@ Demuro revealed. ABut maybe it was lucky because there was a slow pace on the backstretch, so I could find a good position close to the leader. It was a really tight finish. We always believe in him. He's won his last race very easy giving two kilos away. He's a very nice horse. We were hoping to do well, but to win is amazing.@ Transcend, hero of the G1 Japan Cup Dirt Dec. 5 and G1 February S. Feb. 20, had a three-race winning streak snapped. AThe horse was shying with the track but he did a very good job,@ jockey Shinji Fujita reported of the runner-up. Mickael Barzalona, Monterosso (GB), World Cup 3rd AI'm really delighted with his run but I wish I had more room because I'm sure I could have finished second. The lack of pace worked in my favour because this is not really his trip.@ Jamie Spencer, Cape Blanco (Ire), 4th AI was on the right side of a slow pace. I could have done with holding up a little bit longer but he really stuck his neck out at the finish. He really tried. Bear in mind, it was his first run of the year and there will be more to come from him for sure.@ Ramon Dominguez, Gio Ponti, 5th AThis horse is so push button. He's so nice and relaxed. The only two times I can remember him being strong with me was last year here and today. It's very unfair. They were going extremely, extremely slow and I feel my horse was taken out of his game. Turning for home his kick, of course, isn't going to be as effective. Everybody was kind of sprinting home.@ John Murtagh, Gitano Hernando (GB), 6th AHe travelled well through the race. He's only been beaten a couple of lengths. He got a lovely run through the race, but he was just a couple lengths off the very best.@ Christophe Soumillon, Musir (Aus), 7th AIt's a go-cart race, not a workout.@ Ryan Moore, Buena Vista (Jpn), 8th AThe race played out terribly.@ Tom Queally, Twice Over (GB), 9th Video replays courtesy www.emiratesracing.com AIt was a messy race for everyone and I never got into it at any stage.@ G1 Dubai World Cup Victoire Pisa (Jpn) (Neo Universe {Jpn}) surges Ahmed Ajtebi, Prince Bishop (Ire), 10th past Transcend (Jpn) (Wild Rush) to give Japan the exacta.
