The team contacts the group with an unlikely ask: Would they consider visiting, so the town can say thanks? The band, on the cusp of superstardom, agrees — resulting in one of the most improbable, wholesome, heartwarming stories in rock history. But this was no movie: the year was 1975; the town was Cadillac, Michigan; and the band was KISS. This updated version also includes Paul Stanley’s “Live To Win” and 1989 tours. Appendix I : 2003-6 KISS Concertology... “Hey, I was at that show and there were way more people than the number you state at the show!” Yes, it’s possible that there were more (or less) people at a particular show than noted here. Promoters don’t always report the actual and/or correct attendance figures; Newspapers don’t always get it right either; Eye-witness accounts, unfortunately, are seldom better at providing guesstimates either. So the “reported audience” numbers should be taken as being rough figures. An important tangent: If you are looking for the ultimate tour date archive, for the years not covered here (1973-2002), then Curt Gooch and Jeff Suhs’ “KISS Alive Forever: The Complete Touring History” (Billboard Books ISBN: 0-8230-8322-5) is that beast. Unequivocally! Apart from being an indispensable reference for KISS fans, it is an absolutely amazing piece of work that no KISS fan should be without! AT THE DAWN OF THE SEVENTIES, WHEN BOTH THE NIKE swoosh and the Apple insignia were still on the drawing board, four determined young men - guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley, vocalist/bass ist Gene Simmons, guitarist Ace Frehley, and drummer/vocalist Peter Criss - were busy designing a monolithic logo of their own. Consist ing of four strong capital letters colored in shades of metallic silver or combustible orange, the powerful, instantly recognizable KISS emblem would eventually become ubiquitous worldwide. But unlike the Nike and Apple logos, carefully designed to appeal to jocks and nerds respec tively, the KISS logo was created for anyone who wanted to rock & roll all night and party every day - meaning every single freaking person on the plan et. % The KISS product itself was pretty great: a variation on the music developed by heroes like Chuck Berry, the Beatles, Brian Wilson, and Led Zeppelin. A typical KISS song - “Strutter” or “Shout It Out Loud” ^ consisted of three or four minutes of deliciously chunky rock & roll, piled high with short catch phrases about being young and having fun, and usually topped off by an electrifying guitar solo. ^ It was a tried-and-true formula, for sure, but the way the band delivered it was a different story altogether.
