Since then the company has maintained its enviable reputation for the innovation of classic and contemporary styles. At Simon Horn we always return to the spirit of the original, using antique pieces, museum references and period prints as inspiration. This painstaking research is reflected in the style and quality of the end product.

MODENA Epitomising classic contemporary style and designed with a linear, architectural look, the Modena has distinctive carved ribbing on the headboard and base. Handmade in two colours of limewood, it contrasts the dark stained base against a matt cream finish which references the vellum often used in art deco furniture. lit-en-bateau Literally from the French, ‘boat-shaped bed’, an Empire-style bed with curving head and footboards, often forming S-shaped scrolls, with the head and foot of equal height. Also known as a “sleigh bed”

The lit bâteau came to prominence during the early part of the 18th century and was typical of Empire beds. When they were first introduced, heavy drapes encased the bed, designed to suggest a luxurious tent, not a feature relevant in today’s market!

The major significant change lies in the overall proportions of the bed which were altered to ensure maximum comfort (the originals were shorter and narrower) but the key shape remains the same. The wood is chosen for its high quality and finish.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

The bed frames at Simon Horn are all created by our in-house design team. The first bed we produce from the new design is made up as a prototype, and when that reaches us we check it over and analyse every detail to make sure that the bed meets our exacting standards. Any necessary changes are made before the bed goes in to full production.
