    Nanjing Fact Sheet Location: Nanjing, the capital of China’s Jiangsu province, is located in the Yangtze River Delta area, in the center of eastern China, encompassing approximately 2,548 square miles. The Yangtze River flows past the west and northern sides of Nanjing, while the Ningzheng Ridge surrounds the northern, eastern, and southern sides of the city. The Purple Mountain or Zijin Shan is located on the eastern side of Nanjing. The city is 190 miles northwest of Shanghai, and 750 miles southeast of Beijing. Nanjing borders Yangzhou to the northeast, Zhenjiang to the east and Changzhou to the southeast. On its western boundary is Anhui province. Population: Approximately 8.2 million (as of January 2016) Climate: Nanjing has a subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Spring (March – May) is warm and humid, followed by the rainy season in June and July. Autumn is short (October – November), but brings pleasant weather that is cool and dry. Nanjing is cold in winter (December – February) with occasional snow. The average annual temperature is 61°F. Getting To Nanjing: Nanjing is accessible by Nanjing Lukou International Airport, located approximately 40 miles from the city center. China Eastern Airlines offers direct service from LAX, and a number of other airlines including United, Delta, and Quantas provide connecting service from other major airports. Three train stations - Nanjing Railway Station, Nanjing South Railway Station and Nanjing West Railway Station - connect Nanjing to all of China’s major cities. Travelers can reach Nanjing from Shanghai in approximately 90 minutes by bullet train or three hours by car.

    The Transformation of China’s Urban Entrepreneurialism: The Case Study of the City of Kunshan By Shiuh-Shen Chien, National Taiwan University Fulong Wu, University College London Abstract This article examines the formation and transformation of urban entrepreneurialism in the context of China’s market transition. Using the case study of Kunshan, which is ranked as one of the hundred “economically strongest county-level jurisdictions” in the country, the authors argue that two phases of urban entrepreneurialism—one from the 1990s until 2005, and another from 2005 onward—can be roughly distinguished. The first phase of urban entrepreneurialism was more market driven and locally initiated in the context of territorial competition. The second phase of urban entrepreneurialism involves greater intervention on the part of the state in the form of urban planning and top-down government coordination and regional collaboration. The evolution of Kunshan’s urban entrepreneurialism is not a result of deregulation or the retreat of the state. Rather, it is a consequence of reregulation by the municipal government with the goal of territorial consolidation. Introduction There is no doubt that local authorities the world over play a crucial role in promoting economic development in the context of globalization (Harvey 1989; Brenner 2003; Ward 2003; Jessop and Sum 2000). On the one hand, globalization may cause huge unexpected job loss when investors decide to shut down their companies and move out. Capital flight may also create opportunities in a different site. To deal with these challenges and opportunities, local authorities become entrepreneurial in improving their regions, in the hopes of accommodating more business investment and attracting more quality human capital.

    Artists of Traditional Chinese Paintings: 马奉信 Ma Fengxin Ma Fengxin, born in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province in May 1942, studied under Mr. Wang Guanzhong when he was young, and graduated from the Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University. During his study, he was instructed by Lyu Sibai, Fu Baoshi and Yang Jianhou. Owing to his excellent grades when graduating, he furthered his study in the college for another two years. He is a member of Chinese Calligraphers Association, member of China Artists Association, member of China Canglang Book Society, librarian of Jiangsu Provincial Literature and History Museum, and a standing director of Xu Beihong Research Association of Jiangsu Province. He used to be a member of the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth CPPCC of Jiangsu Province, dean of Xuzhou Painting and Calligraphy Institute, vice chairman of Xuzhou Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and a distinguished professor of Fine Arts School of Jiangsu Normal University. 黄秉乙 Huang Bingyi Huang Bingyi, born in 1941, styled himself Ye Qing. In 1974, he took Mr. Kong Zhongqi as his teacher and specialized in landscape painting. In 1985, he entered the senior graduate class Chinese painting department of China Academy of Art and taught by Mr. Lu Yanshao. He is a member of China Hue Art Association, senior painter of Jiangsu Guofeng Painting and Calligraphy Institute, adjunct professor of Shandong Art Institute, and a painter of Xuzhou Qinxin Painting and Calligraphy Institute. 杨正伟 Yang Zhengwei Yang Zhengwei (Pseudonym：Zhi Hu) was born in 1948. He is currently a member of the China Artists Association, a national-level artist, an honorary dean of Painting and Calligraphy of Xuzhou Municipal Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy, and the president of Xichu Landscape Painting Association.
