The original was purchased by Leelanau’s newest winery, Forty Five North, and will be used on their premier wine label. Giclee Limited Edition Reproductions of the painting are available from the artist. Mary graduated with a BFA in Art Education from Drake University, has studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy, attended pastel workshops in Scotland and Provence, France and painted in Italy, the Southwest United States and most recently in New Zealand. Since moving to the Leelanau Peninsula in 1999, her work has centered primarily on painting the Northern Michigan landscape in pastel. Mary’s popular paintings have appeared on the covers of the American Spoon Foods catalogs, three ForeWord Magazine covers and are in college, corporate, library and numerous private collections throughout the country. Her painting “The Lake Beckons” was selected for the 2003 Leland Wine Festival poster. Mary illustrated and published “Look About You - A Magical Childhood in Michigan’s Wild Places” - a best selling book that was a finalist in 2003 for the Great Lakes Booksellers Association Book of the Year Award. Mary teaches pastel workshops and classes at the Art Center in Traverse City, Crystal Lake Art Center in Frankfort, the Leland Community Cultural Center, the Midland (MI) Center for the Arts Studio School and in her studio. Recently she was the guest speaker at the Pastel Artists of New Zealand convention in Christchurch, NZ and taught a pastel workshop in Invercargill, NZ. She is president of the Great Lakes Pastel Society and her studio/ gallery, Rimwalk Studio, is open to the public.
