Cherrybrook Senior & Little Athletics Centre Inc 19th Annual Report 2012/2013 SEASON www.cherrybrookathletics.org.au OUR CLUB Our Club is made up of two divisions: our Little Athletics Club (founded in 1994) which caters for athletes from five to sixteen years of age and our Seniors club (founded in 2001) which caters for athletes from approximately 12 years – master athletes of all ages. The two divisions operate as one Club under the name Cherrybrook Senior & Little Athletics Centre Inc. This season our Club had a total registration of 547 Athletes. Our Little Athletics division had 449 registrations and the Seniors had 114 registrations plus 9 officials with 27 of our Little Athletics athletes dual registered with our Seniors Club. 2012-2013 COMMITTEE Board Other Committee Chair John Sharpe Age Manager Janine Tavner & Secretary Cathy Eaton Coordinators Trish Hirst Treasurer Sandra Moore Championships (LA’s) Cathy Eaton & Members Nicky Jenneke Carl Oberg Sean O’Connor Competition (Seniors) Nicky Jenneke Seniors Executive Seniors Records and Matt Joyce President John Sharpe Rankings Vice President Nicky Jenneke Coaching Valme Kruger Secretary Alexandra Pearce Equipment Jorge Martinez Treasurer Sandra Moore Registrar Assistant Nicola Craig Registrar Bruce Chamberlain Juniors Juniors Executive Records and Rankings Jill Ingram & Tracy McClenaghan President Sean O’Connor Uniforms Kat Cuevas & Vice President Greg Phillips Jenny Little Secretary Ros Read Website Jill Ingram & Treasurer Sandra Moore Bruce Chamberlain Registrar Elizabeth Jones General committee Jenny Bishop LIFE MEMBERS Ken Donaldson 2003 / 2004 John Sharpe 2007 / 2008 Anne Procajlo 2007 / 2008 Alexandra Pearce 2008 / 2009 Valme Kruger 2011 / 2012 Nicky Jenneke 2011 / 2012 Juniors President’s Report The 2012/2013 season started with news from Hornsby Council that four weeks before the track season was due to commence, Greenway Park would be closed from September 2012 until April 2013 for the purpose of levelling, installing a sprinkler system and returfing. This effectively left us without a track for the entire summer season. After numerous emergency meetings and pondering several options, the committee decided that Pennant Hills Park was the most logical option for our needs being relatively close for training and available for Friday night competition. Ros Read must be acknowledged for her excellent skills, not only dealing with Council but through the year having to negotiate with Hornsby Little Athletics Club, Pennant Hills Cricket, Soccer & AFL clubs regarding the sharing of training space. The challenges for Cherrybrook Little Athletics continued. We were given a first aid room as a canteen, no storage space, no discus circle or cage and no lighting at the jumps and shot area. We still managed to overcome these difficulties and run a successful Friday night competition. Our storage problem was solved by Daven Timms and Royal Wolf Containers who along with Hornsby Council loaned us secure shipping containers for our equipment. I would like to thank all the athletes, parents and coaches for being understanding and accommodating with respect to the changes we had to implement as a result of the move. A special thanks to the committee members, athletes and parents who helped us with the mammoth task of relocating to Pennant Hills Park in early September 2012 and then giving up Easter Saturday 2013 to move the equipment back to Greenway Park. This year the club’s need for new harder, larger and safer high jump equipment was a focus for our fundraising. A successful fundraising campaign involving canteen sales, Bunnings barbeques, Rotary raffles, ginger bread houses and sunscreen enabled the club to purchase two new full sized high jump sets suitable for our older little athletes and senior members. These mats will be used for training and competition purposes on our return to Greenway. Cherrybrook Little Athletics was represented by 449 athletes this season and athletes competed in various gala days, cross country events, LANSW State Relays, Trans -Tasman Trials and Challenge, Zone, Regional, LANSW State Multi Event Carnival and finally LANSW State Championships. Cherrybrook had fifty athletes compete in the LANSW State Championships in March and returned with an impressive 32 medals placing Cherrybrook Little Athletics 2nd in the medal count and Rachel Pace winning gold in three events. As a result of their outstanding efforts Kristina Moore & Oliver Jacquot were selected in the NSW under 13s team to compete in the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Canberra, with Kristina being selected as captain of the NSW girls team. Congratulations must also go to Alexander Moore as our club’s nomination for the Little Athletics McDonald’s scholarship. In an official capacity at representative carnivals Cathy Eaton is to be congratulated on her election as Zone Co-ordinator for the North Metropolitan Zone. It has been a very rewarding and pleasurable experience in the position of Cherrybrook Little Athletics President this season. It must be remembered that the committee members are all volunteers and much work is done ‘behind the scenes’ to continue and improve the running of our Club. I wish to thank them and other proactive parents for their commitment and support throughout the season which has made my job easier. Special appreciation goes to all key officials, age managers, timing gate operators, recorders, computer room/data entry personnel, barbeque and canteen helpers. I would also like to single out Greg Phillips who has been both a President and Vice President over the past five years and also Ros Read our current Secretary for their dedication and service to Cherrybrook Little Athletics. I implore more of our parents to ‘step up’ and get involved in a club that is aspiring to grow better and more professional both on and off the track, all the time. Finally, I encourage all our members to return next season to enjoy competing with their friends back on our home track. The Centre has Accumulated Funds of $83,758, having increased from the previous year of $68,386 as a result of the current year’s Operating Surplus of $15,372 (ahead of budget of $6,272). The Accumulated Funds are represented by Assets of $83,758 (Cash $37,633, Plant & Equipment at written down value (wdv) $28,873 and Uniform Stock $17,252) with no Liabilities. The net WDV of Plant & Equipment has increased from $23,227 to $28,872 largely due to the purchase of a new set of High Jump Mats at the end of the season at a cost of $12,268. The purchase of the new mats was largely financed by the Fundraising activities undertaken this season. Net Fundraising income of $5,431 was achieved via 4 Bunnings Barbeques raising profits of $3,730; the sale of Gingerbread Houses raising $1,000; sale of tickets for the Rotary raffle, sale of Cancer Council sunscreen and Zone and Region program sales totalling $701. Thank you to every member of our Centre who contributed to our fundraising activities this year which were undertaken to help finance new equipment for our athletes. Total Canteen and Uniform Sales for the year increased by $1,334 (5%) to $29,408. This year the Net Surplus from Trading operations (Canteen and Uniform) of $14,106 was an increase on last year’s result of $10,050 by $4,056 (40%). The increase in Canteen and Uniform Sales was assisted by the reduced spending on Uniform and Canteen Purchases ($5,822 or 28%). Total Income increased slightly by $2,136 to $48,589, which is mainly attributable to Fundraising Income of $5,431 ($nil in 2012) offset by Registration fees collected decreasing by some $2,714 (6.2%). It should be noted that Registration fees collected net of Registration and affiliation fees paid has decreased from $31,474 to $30,657 (2.6%) which is in line with the decrease in 40 Junior registrations from the previous season.
