Now in its fifth season, this year’s lineup of hilarious Off-Broadway hits opens November 5-17 with the North American tour of Spamilton: An American Parody, making its Kansas City premiere. Tickets are on sale now. Created by Gerard Alessandrini, the comic mastermind behind the long-running hit Forbidden Broadway, which played the 2017-18 Starlight Indoors series, Spamilton: An American Parody is a side-splitting new musical parody based on a blockbuster hit of a similar name. After numerous extensions of its run in New York, this hilarious production made a splash in Chicago, Los Angeles and London. Now, Spamilton: An American Parody brings a singing, dancing and comedy revolution to Kansas City. “Spamilton pays a hilarious tribute to its inspiration and is smart, sharp and funny to its core— everything you’d want and more from a spoof of Broadway’s most popular musical,” Caroline Gibel, director of indoor programming at Starlight, said. “The best part is, you don’t have to have seen Hamilton to enjoy Spamilton.

The book is divided into two parts: A Primer on Playing Action for Actors “Context” and “Practice.” The Context section provides a thorough examination of the theory behind the core elements of Playing Action. The Practice section provides a step-by-step rehearsal guide for actors to integrate Playing Action into their By Hugh O’Gorman preparation process. Acting Is Action is a place to begin for actors: a foundation, a ground plan for how to get started and how to build the core of a performance. More precisely, it provides a practical guide for actors, directors, and teachers in the technique of Playing Action, and it addresses a niche void in the world of actor training by illuminating what exactly to do in the moment-to-moment act of the acting task. Welcome back, Gerard Alessandrini, to the Great White Way. Your absence of three years has been felt and we are the richer for your comeback. The flops are not his targets here; that would be way too easy for Mr. Alessandrini. What he goes after are the pompous, overinflated sacred cows, many of whom are deemed the Gods of Broadway. Neither show nor performer this past season is spared. The swipes he takes hit the bulls-eye in practically every vignette. The vignette I enjoyed the most was at the expense of the oh-so-pretentious, boring musical Once. I was vindicated by Mr. Alessandrini’s version. Everything I felt that night, he skewered brilliantly in song and humor. I owe you a big one for this, Mr.
