Nowadays creating believable characters is a top trend in the video game industry. Recent projects present new design concepts and improvements in artificial intelligence that are oriented to this goal. The expected behaviour of computer-played characters becomes increasingly demanding: proactivity, au- tonomous decision-making, social interaction, natural communication, reason- ing and knowledge management, etc. Our research project explores the possibil- ity for one of these characters to investigate, solving an enigma while dealing with incomplete information and the lies of other characters. In this paper we propose how to manage trust issues when modelling suspicion in the artificial mind of a Columbo-like detective, considering that our desired gameplay is a murder mystery game in which the player plays the role of the culprit. Advances in intelligent behaviour are changing the user experi- ence, improving these characters’ performance and expanding the scope of their po- tential uses. One aspect that refrain us from believing such characters are “alive” is that they seem completely “naive”: they will believe without doubts all the infor- mation received from other sources. -

The Museum of Modern Art For Immediate Release February 1994 JEANNE MOREAU: NOUVELLE VAGUE AND BEYOND February 25 - March 18, 1994 A film retrospective of the legendary French actress Jeanne Moreau, spanning her remarkable forty-five year career, opens at The Museum of Modern Art on February 25, 1994. JEANNE MOREAU: NOUVELLE VAGUE AND BEYOND traces the actress's steady rise from the French cinema of the 1950s and international renown as muse and icon of the New Wave movement to the present. On view through March 18, the exhibition shows Moreau to be one of the few performing artists who both epitomize and transcend their eras by the originality of their work. The retrospective comprises thirty films, including three that Moreau directed. Two films in the series are United States premieres: The Old Woman Mho Wades in the Sea (1991, Laurent Heynemann), and her most recent film, A Foreign Field (1993, Charles Sturridge), in which Moreau stars with Lauren Bacall and Alec Guinness. Other highlights include The Queen Margot (1953, Jean Dreville), which has not been shown in the United States since its original release; the uncut version of Eva (1962, Joseph Losey); the rarely seen Mata Hari, Agent H 21 (1964, Jean-Louis Richard), and Joanna Francesa (1973, Carlos Diegues). Alternately playful, seductive, or somber, Moreau brought something truly modern to the screen -- a compelling but ultimately elusive persona. After perfecting her craft as a principal member of the Comedie Frangaise and the Theatre National Populaire, she appeared in such films as Louis Malle's Elevator to the Gallows (1957) and The Lovers (1958), the latter of which she created a scandal with her portrayal of an adultress. -

Missing for over 50 years, the 20 minute chilling short film has been digitally restored and is being made available to view for free on BFI Player for two weeks from 26 October alongside a curated trove of horror currios including Algernon’ Blackwood’s The Reformation of St. Jules (1949), Castleton Knight’s Prelude (1927); a nightmarish reverie on Poe’s The Premature Burial and Cross-Roads (1955), Christopher Lee’s earliest supernatural screen role, as a ghost who returns from the grave to seek revenge. Directed by JB Williams and made at Carlton Kay Studios in London, The Tell-Tale Heart (1953), stars the Welsh-born actor and producer Stanley Baker - The Guns of Navarone (1961), Zulu (1964), Accident (1967), as Poe’s unnamed narrator with a haunted conscience. Like his friend and compatriot Richard Burton, Baker was recognised for his combination of smouldering intensity, surly strong spirit and fine speaking voice. A voice he deploys perfectly here to narrate this classic short story from Edgar Allan Poe, the master of mystery and suspense. -

It analyses the relationship between the physical location of TV series production at Elstree Studios, UK, the representation of place in programmes, and the international trade in television fiction between the UK and USA. The TV series made at Elstree by the ITC and ABC companies and their affiliates linked Britishness with an international modernity associated with the USA, while also promoting national specificity. To do this, they drew on film production techniques that were already common for TV series production in Hollywood. -

Welsh Government
Detailed Responses to the recommendations of the report, Voting Rights for Prisoners, are set out below: Recommendation 1 The Committee recommends that: The Welsh Government and National Assembly for Wales Commission introduce legislation to give all those Welsh prisoners who are serving custodial sentences of less than four years the right to vote in devolved Welsh elections. Mohammad Asghar and Mark Isherwood do not agree with this recommendation. Response: Accept The Welsh Government believes that enabling at least some prisoners to vote will send very strong and positive messages to prisoners that they still have a stake in society and, in turn, that they have responsibilities towards society as a whole. Enfranchisement based on sentence length will strike a reasonable balance; we agree that a custodial sentence of four years is an appropriate threshold, which acknowledges the nature, gravity and circumstances of the offending. Accordingly, the Welsh Government will work to introduce legislation in this Assembly to enable prisoners from Wales serving a custodial sentence of less than four years to vote in devolved local government elections. We shall work closely with the UK Government and partners to implement such legislation. We estimate that some 1,900 prisoners out of a total of about 4,800 prisoners from Wales would be enfranchised. The recommendation concerning Assembly elections is directed to the Llywydd and it would be for her, in the first instance, to respond in the context of the Senedd and Elections (Wales) Bill. Financial Implications – The financial implications of providing for prisoner voting will be addressed as part of the negotiations which will take place with the UK Government. -
