During financial year 2015-16, the Scottish Government allocated a budget of £2.5million for telecommunications and infrastructure with a further capital budget of £7,363,000 to support corporate systems The budgets for financial years 2017-18 and 2018-19 have yet to be set What storage vendor(s) and model do you currently use? (Month/year) Most refresh dates are undetermined at this point in time. However, some VCE vBlocks are due for replacement in January 2020. Isilon hardware is currently out for tender for replacement in January 2017. What is your estimated budget for the refresh? For most components this is not applicable as refresh dates and budgets are undetermined at this point in time. The Isilon kit has been allocated £300k for replacement. The majority of support for our core infrastructure is insourced. The exceptions to this are as follows: Agriculture Food & Rural Communities (AFRC) Directorate - CGI between 2014 and 2019. Marine Scotland Compliance - Sopra Steria Jan 2015 to March 2018. Digital Directorate - Amazon Web Services (AWS). 8th July 2015 to 7th July 2017. 3 Please also name all of the IT re-sellers that you work with and buy from, as well as the frameworks that you use for the release of any tenders etc. This information is provided in Annex B Please also approximate the time spent managing your IT systems, specifically storage, per week in the unit of man hours. Although there is a general relationship in most species between age and size, It is difficult to determine the age of a species by simple measurements of body length or weight. Fisheries scientists, therefore, are required to determine fish age using alternate measures. The most common method is observing the growth rings in hard, bony structures of the fish the ear bones (otolith), scales, spines etc . This manual describes the procedures employed by Marine Scotland Science for the aging of Megrim (Lepidorhombus whiffiagonis) Collecting megrim otoliths The principal is similar to gadoids (Henderson 2017a) except that the fish is laid on the board upside down in a similar manner to Angler fish and similar to Angler fish (Henderson 2018b)The gill cover is lifted, the gills scraped back to reveal the underlying bone, and an incision is made in to the auditory capsule. The otoliths are extracted by inserting the point of a knife blade and twisting it to remove the otolith. If the otolith has been missed, it can be extracted from the skull by using forceps. Great care should be taken to prevent external damage when carrying out this procedure, as Megrim is also a high value species.

All public sector organisations in Scotland have had to reduce running costs. The Scottish Government acknowledges the range of measures SNH has taken across its operations in order to fulfil wider responsibilities with fewer resources in 2011-12. We are confident that SNH’s restructuring and move to a more programme-based approach will help to prepare the organisation for the ongoing pressure on public finances expected over coming years. However, the Scottish Government recognises that future pressures may have a direct impact on SNH’s activities and delivery of programmes. During this challenging period we will continue to work closely with you to help SNH deliver Scottish Ministers’ priorities for the natural environment and the economy. Scottish Government Directorates will also be undergoing considerable changes during 2011-12, both as a response to the pressure on public finances and in preparation for a new administration.
