DEBORAH NORVILLE LECTURE AT EIU RESCHEDULED

CHARLESTON, IL--A lecture by CBS News Correspondent Deborah Norville,

scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday (March 14) at Eastern Illinois University, has been

rescheduled for 8 p.m. Monday, March 28 in Eastern's McAfee Gymnasium.

Norville reportedly was assigned by CBS for Middle East coverage through

March 21.

Tickets are on sale now through March 18 and on the day of the event. No

tickets will be sold during spring break, March 19-27.

All purchased tickets will be honored. Costs are $3 for students, $6 for

public. For ticket information, call the University Union Ticket Office at (217) 581-

5122 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

on Friday.

Norville's lecture, sponsored by the University Board Lectures Committee, is

being held in conjunction with Women's History and Awareness Month activities

on the EIU campus.

Norville joined CBS News in December 1992 as a correspondent on the

FILE COPY ADD 1/1/1/1 NORVILLE ~ newsmagazine program "Street Stories," anchored by Ed Brautey. She has also contributed reports to "48 Hours" and the "CBS Evening News" and is a contribut­ ing editor to McCall's magazine, for which she writes cover story profiles.

Prior to joining the CBS News, Norville hosted the nationally syndicated program, "The Deborah Norville Show" on the ABC Radio Network. Norville was also co-host of NBC's "Today" program from January 1990 to April 1991. From

January 1987 to September 1991, she was the anchor of "NBC News at Sunrise," making her the only woman to solo anchor a daily network news program.

Norville has received many distinguished awards during her 15 years of , including a national Emmy in 1989 for her reporting of the democratic uprising in Romania. She was named "TV Anchor for the year 2000" in 1990 by the readers of the Washington Journalism Review in its annual "Best in the Business Survey."

She won a local Emmy for her coverage of the 1985 hijacking of TWA flight

#84 7 in Beirut and received a Silver Plaque from the Chicago Film Festival for a documentary on missing and abused children.

A native of Dalton, Georgia, Norville graduated summa cum laude as a First

Honor Graduate at the . She holds a degree in broadcast news and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Blue Key honor societies.

In addition, Norville was named "Person of the Year" in 1989 by the

Broadcast Advertising Club in Chicago, a "Mother of the Year" (1992) by the

National Mothers Day Committee and a "Woman of Achievement" (1992) by the

Anti-Defamation League of New York.

She and her husband, business executive Karl Wellner, have one son, Karl

Nikolai.
