NOTES Northbrook, Illinois, native J.T. Compher tied his career high with three points (1g/2a) yesterday afternoon, with both his three-point efforts coming at United Center (also Feb. 22, 2019). Compher led the Avs with four goals and five points (tied) in five games against the Blackhawks last season ... Mikko Rantanen has 11 points (6g/5a) in 11 career games versus Chicago ... Marc Crawford spent four seasons as the Avalanche/Nordiques head coach, winning a Stanley Cup in 1996 ... T.J. Tynan is from Orland Park, Illinois.

JUST SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MONTH Nathan MacKinnon recorded his third 4-point game of season yesterday—all of which have come in the last three weeks—and now has 22 points (9g/13a) in 13 games this month, tied for fifth in the NHL. It's the third straight November that MacKinnon has recorded at least 20 points, and he is one shy of equaling his career high for points in ANY month (23 last November). His 23 points last November tied the Avalanche record (since the team relocated) for a single November set by Peter Forsberg in 1995-96. MacKinnon, who was the NHL's Second Star of the Month last November (2018) after he was the league's First Star in November of 2017, has now combined for 65 points (23g/42a) in 39 November games since 2017, the most of any player.

NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER Cale Makar has 16 points (7g/9a) in 13 games this month, the third most ever by an NHL rookie blueliner in November. He needs two tonight to tie Larry Murphy's record (18) set in 1980. Makar's 16 points are the most by a rookie defenseman in ANY month since Alexei Zhitnik (19) in March of 1993 with the Los Angeles Kings. In fact, his 16 points this month are tied for the fifth-highest total ever by an Avalanche/Nordiques defenseman in a single month.

NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER PART II Makar's seven goals this month have tied the Avalanche record for a defenseman in a single month. It's the most by a rookie defenseman in a single month since Brian Leetch had seven in January 1989. Makar leads all rookies with three game winners, which ties the franchise record for a franchise rookie defender set by Aaron Miller in 1996-97.

ALL HAIL CALE Cale Makar leads all NHL rookies with 26 points (8g/18a) in 25 games. Makar's 26 points are the most by a defenseman in his first 25 career games since Larry Murphy (28) in 1980-81 with the Los Angeles Kings. Cale's 26 points equals the most by an Avalanche defenseman through the team's first 25 contests of a season (Sandis Ozolinsh, 26 in 1996-97). Only two other rookie defensemen in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) have scored at least eight goals through their first 25 games of their NHL career: Brad Maxwell (8) in 1977-78 with Minnesota and Barry Beck (11) in 1977-78 with the Colorado Rockies.

MORE MAKAR • On Nov. 16, Makar became the fourth defensemen in NHL history to be the first rookie to reach 20 points. He joined Nicklas Lidstrom (22 GP with Detroit in 1991-92), Bobby Orr (33 GP with Boston in 1966-67) and Hap Day (18 GP with Toronto St. Pats in 1924-25). • Makar was just the fourth defenseman in NHL history to record 20 points in his first 20 career games, joining Harry Cameron (1917-18, Toronto Arenas), Hap Day (1924-25, Toronto St. Pats) and Larry Murphy (1980-81, Los Angeles). • Was the first rookie defenseman to have 20 or more points through his team's first 20 games of a season since Brian Leetch (22) in 1988-89 with the NY Rangers. • Second Avalanche/Nordiques rookie defenseman to record two multi-goal games in a season (Pierre Lacroix, 1979-80) • Career-high four assists on Nov. 16 in Vancouver, setting a single-game franchise rookie record in assists and matching the record in points (Jeff Brown with Quebec on Oct. 13, 1986 vs. Vancouver). • First rookie defenseman in franchise history to score a goal in three straight games, Nov. 7-12. • Eighth rookie defenseman in NHL history to score the winning tally in consecutive games (Nov. 9-12) • NHL's Third Star for the week of Nov. 4-10. Second Avalanche rookie to do so, joining Matt Duchene (2009-10), and just the third defenseman, joining Liles (2010-11) and Barrie (2015-16). • Second rookie defensemen in franchise history to post consecutive multi-point outings, Nov. 7-9 (David Pichette, Dec. 7-10, 1980).

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT Colorado out-shot Edmonton 50-20 in Wednesday's 4-1 victory. The 50 shots were a season high and the 20 shots against a season low. It marked the seventh 50+ shot performance since the franchise relocated to Denver and the first since April 4, 2017 vs. Chicago (51). The +30 shot differential equaled the second-highest in Colorado/Quebec franchise history, one short of the record:

+31 (57-26) 1996/03/05 vs SJS +30 (50-20) 2019/11/27 vs EDM +30 (43-13) 2007/11/28 vs EDM +30 (53-23) 1984/10/20 @ TOR

EVERYBODY'S TALKIN 'BOUT THE NEW KID(S) IN TOWN Offseason additions Andre Burakovsky (11 goals), Joonas Donskoi (9) and Nazem Kadri (8) rank 2-3-4 on the team in goal scoring, combining for 28 (or 31%) of the club's 90 total markers. All three forwards rank among the Avalanche's top-five point producers as well, as they've picked up 57 points (28g/29a) between them in 25 games.

THE MORE THE MERRIER Four different Colorado goaltenders have earned a win in 2019-20, making this just the second Avalanche team to feature four different goaltenders with a victory in a single season (also 2005-06). No other NHL team has had four different winning goaltenders this year. In fact, the only other team to even have four goalies appear in a game is Vegas and the only other team to have three goalies with a win is Minnesota. Four netminders won a game for the Avs this month, which included three different winning netminders in a span of a week from Nov. 12-19.

LIGHTING THE LAMP The Avs are averaging 3.60 goals-per-game, third in the NHL. Colorado has scored 41 goals over the last 10 games, including nine (9- 4) on Nov. 7 vs. Nashville, the club's most since Dec. 9, 2007 (9-5 vs. St. Louis).

YOU HAD TO BE A BIG SHOT Nathan MacKinnon ranks second in the NHL with 122 shots. He leads all players with 74 shots this month, the most ever by a Colorado player in a calendar month. He recorded a career-high 12 shots on Nov. 1 vs. Dallas, tying the single-game franchise record set by Gabriel Landeskog on Jan. 9, 2019 at Calgary. It is the most shots by an NHL player in a game this year. MacKinnon, who led the NHL with a franchise-record 366 shots last season, has a shot in 176 consecutive games, the second longest active streak (Dougie Hamilton 273).

WORKING OVERTIME Nathan MacKinnon has two OT winners this season and eight in his career, one behind Milan Hejduk for the most in franchise history. The single-season franchise record is three, a mark already tied by MacKinnon in 2017-18 (also David Jones in 2010-11 and Tyson Barrie in 2013-14).

THIS DAY IN AVS HISTORY Nov. 30, 2013 - The Avalanche and Wild were not whistled for a single penalty in Colorado’s 3-2 shootout win at Pepsi Center. It was only the second game in franchise history in which neither team had a penalty (April 9, 2000 vs. Detroit)
