Permit holders can use a permitted vehicle to travel beyond the reach of public roads, to areas where others must hike or bike. The permit provides access for those who seek solitude, connection to nature, undisturbed wildlife habitat, and inclusion with fellow sportspeople. MAPPWD Routes have been carefully selected to protect natural areas and recreational activities. Access is restricted to designated routes only. This list, updated May 1, 2020, contains all currently permitted routes and supersedes all previous listings. All routes are subject to closure due to seasonal conditions or maintenance.
