Profile of COP Representatives The 8th Council of Presidents Meeting, Global U8 Consortium April 15~16, 2014 / University of Le Havre University of Le Havre Dr. Pascal Reghem President Dr. Pascal Reghem has obtained Electrical Engineering degree from CNAM and joined the University of Le Havre in 1986 after working for 6 years in industry in Norman dy. Having received a PhD in 1994, he was recruited as Associate Professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Le Havre . Dr. Reghem has directed the Center of Computer Resources and Systems from 1995 until 2001, and has been a member of the laboratory of GREAH ( Research Group in Electrical Engineering and Automatics, L e Havre ). His research field is electrical engineering and, more specifically, renewable energy sources. Dr. Reghem was elected as a member of the administration council in 2000, worked as Vice President in charge of financed and human resources . He graduated from the Department of Economics of Xiamen University in 1982. After graduation, Prof. Zhu began his teaching career at Xiamen University. In 1985, he traveled to Yugoslavia for advanced stud ies in the Department Of International Economics at the University of Belgrade, and was then conferred a doctoral degree in Economics in 1990. From 1999 to 2000, he visited Boston University and Harvard University as a visiting Professor under the Sino-US Ful bright Foundation Program. Prof. Zhu is now a professor in the School of Law at Xiamen University . His main research interests are Law and Economics, International Investment and International Investment Law. From May 1995 to June 2003, Prof. Zhu served a s the Vice president of Xiamen University. Since June 2003, he has served as President of Xiamen University. President Zhu is also currently Chairman of the Xiamen Association of Social Sciences and a member of the Council of the Confucius Institute Headqu arters. In 2004, he was appointed President of Xiamen University at the Vice -Ministerial Level by the State Council. 2014 COP_Profile 3 Universiti Malaysia Perlis Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal Deputy Vice Chancellor Representative of Vice-Chancellor Kamarudin Hussin Professor Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal acquired his BSc (Physics) and MA (Physics) from Western Michigan University, USA, an d his PhD from the University of Liverpool, UK. He worked as Lecturer in Universiti Sains Malaysia for 11 years before joining Universiti M alaysia Perlis (UniMAP) in 2002. At that time, UniMAP was just established. Zul Azhar started off as Dean of the School of Microelectronic Engineering and was instrumental in the setting up of not only the curriculum of the academic programs offered, but a lso the labs and other related academic infrastructure of the new university. He was later appointed as the first Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Commercialization) of UniMAP, and then, after 5 years in this position, was appointed Deputy Vice Chancello r (Academic & Internationalization) starting 2010. He is still holding the post. Prof Zul Azhar's research interest is in electron microscopy study of defects in semiconductors. Over the years, he has authored and co-authored more than 80 papers, and sup ervised more than 15 postgraduate students. 2014 COP_Profile 4 University of Hull Dr. Daniel R. Parsons Professor in Process Sedimentology Representative of Vice-Chancellor Calie Pistorius Daniel R. Parsons holds a Chair position in Process Sedimentology at the University of Hull. He is presently the director of the University’s Centre for Adaptive Science and Sustainability. The Centre is responsible for positioning the University of Hull as a leader in the environmental and renewable sectors and is mana ging the University's research into the low carbon economy and issues of security of supply, including the nexus of food, water and energy. Prof. Parsons is also University Research Theme Leader for Energy and Environment and is therefore responsible for c oordinating and guiding all interdisciplinary research related to the energy and environmental sectors across the University of Hull. His personal research interests relate to the geosciences and specifically investigating interactions between fluid flows, sediment transport and depositional patterns on Earth’s surface across a range of temporal and spatial scales and environments. He presently holds a portfolio of £1.4 M research grant income at the University of Hull, with active involvement in research programmes that amount to £8.9 M. 2014 COP_Profile 5 University of Fortaleza Dr. Leda Rouquayrol Guillemette Professor in Law Representative of President Fátima Maria Fernandes Veras She was awarded with high distinction from French Ministry of Education and research, the “Chevalier dans l’ordre des Palmes Académiques”, on January 13 th of 2013. Diploma on Political Studies/PHd by Paris IX -Dauphine University “Decisions, Space, Power” , she presented her Thesis in 1994 “The Evolution of Violence in Brazil, through the study of violent crimes during the 1980s” . Doctor on Law by the Federal University of Ceará. Currently in charge of international development of research branch a Fortaleza university – UNIFOR. Professor on Latin American civilisation and member of the Research group “Identities and Cultures - GRIC ”, she teaches at the faculty of International Aff airs in Le Havre University since 1987. There, she created the Master on Commerce with Latin America, the training programme for Latin American jurists in Europe and organised the Seminar on the working of European Institutions, made under the High Patrona ge of the European Parliament Presidency. She is responsible for the courses on cooperation at the University of Paris III New Sorbonne’s Institute for High Studies on Latin America (IHEAL) as well as in other European and Latin American universities. 2014 COP_Profile 6 Otto von Guericke Univ.
