  • Turnbull Hockey Pool For
Turnbull Hockey Pool for Each year, Turnbull students participate in several fundraising initiatives, which we promote as a way to develop a sense of community, leadership and social responsibility within the students. Last year's grade 7 and 8 students put forth a great deal of effort campaigning friends and family members to join Turnbull's annual NHL hockey pool, raising a total of $1750 for a charity of their choice (the United Way). This year's group has decided to run the hockey pool for the benefit of Help Lesotho, an international development organization working in the AIDS-ravaged country of Lesotho in southern Africa. From www.helplesotho.org "Help Lesotho’s programs foster hope and motivation in those who are most in need: orphans, vulnerable children, at-risk youth and grandmothers. Our work targets root causes and community priorities, including literacy, youth leadership training, school twinning, child sponsorship and gender programming. Help Lesotho is an effective, sustainable organization that is working at the grass-roots level to support the next generation of leaders in Lesotho." Your participation in this year's NHL hockey pool is very much appreciated. We believe it will provide students and their friends and families an opportunity to have fun together while giving back to their community by raising awareness and funds for a great cause. Prizes: > Grand Prize awarded to contestant whose team accumulates the most points over the regular NHL season = 10" Samsung Galaxy Tablet > Monthly Prizes awarded to the contestants whose teams accumulate the most points over each designated period (see website) = Two Movie Passes How it Works: > Everyone in the community is welcome to join in on the fun.

  • Press Clips October 2, 2013 Youthful Sabres Open in Detroit Wednesday Associated Press October 1, 2013
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips October 2, 2013 Youthful Sabres open in Detroit Wednesday Associated Press October 1, 2013 Sabres coach Ron Rolston is reminded of the changes taking place in downtown Buffalo every day he heads into work. There’s a construction site across the street from the team’s arena, where Sabres owner Terry Pegula’s HarborCenter hotel and entertainment complex is being erected. Then there’s the major overhaul the Sabres themselves have been undergoing over the past eight months. They’re both works in progress, and also reflect the potential of a brighter future in Buffalo. “I would say it’s a good correlation and analogy,” Rolston said. “It’s both out front and in the arena.” Rolston is part of the Sabres’ transformation in replacing longtime coach Lindy Ruff, who was fired in February. The changes didn’t end there during what became a tumultuous, lockout- shortened season that ended with Buffalo missing the playoffs for the fourth time in six years. Before the season was over, the Sabres purged much of their old guard — including captain Jason Pominville — as part of a youth movement to shake up what had been an aging, high-priced and under-achieving core. And more changes could still be store, with goalie Ryan Miller and forward Thomas Vanek’s futures uncertain beyond this season. Both are entering the final years of their contracts, and the Sabres haven’t ruled out trading one or both. That’s left Rolston tempering his early expectations of an opening-day roster that could feature as many as seven rookies, including 18-year-old defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen.

  • Matt Dumba Named Minnesota Wild's Nominee for the 2020
For Immediate Release Contacts: Aaron Sickman (651) 602-6009 Monday, July 27, 2020 Megan Kogut (651) 312-3439 Emily Yang (651) 602-6034 MATT DUMBA NAMED MINNESOTA WILD’S NOMINEE FOR THE 2020 KING CLANCY MEMORIAL TROPHY SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The National Hockey League (NHL) today announced Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba as the team’s nominee for the 2020 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community. The three finalists for the 2019-20 King Clancy Memorial Trophy will be announced in early August. Dumba’s charitable aspirations continued to grow in earnest during the 2019-20 season as he contributed his time, money and effort to a number of community initiatives. The 26-year-old joined forces with six other current and former NHL players to help form the Hockey Diversity Alliance (HDA). The HDA’s mission is to eradicate racism and intolerance in hockey. One of the HDA’s goals is to promote diversity at all levels of the game, using community outreach and engagement with youth, that will hopefully make the game more accessible and more affordable for more people. On June 18 he launched a fundraiser to support the Lake Street Council and their initiative to Rebuild Lake Street at rebuildminnesota.com. The fundraiser also helps Canadians facing discrimination by supporting ActionDignity. Matt pledged to match all donations up to $100,000. In addition, the Minnesota Wild and the NHL each donated $50,000 to Dumba’s initiative to help rebuild Lake Street.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips February 2, 2021 Devils shut down by Covid-19 outbreak after back-to-back games in Buffalo By Mike Harrington The Buffalo News February 1, 2021 Aday after completing a two-game series against the Buffalo Sabres in KeyBank Center, the New Jersey Devils have had their training facility in Newark shut down by the NHL because of a Covid-19 outbreak. The league announced Monday afternoon that 10 Devils players are now on the team's Covid protocol list, and five of them appeared in games against the Sabres. As a result, the Devils' games have been postponed through at least Saturday. The Devils, led by former Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff, headed to Pittsburgh after Sunday's 5-3 win here, but were then sent home by league officials. Their games with the Penguins on Tuesday and Thursday have been postponed, as has Saturday's home game against the New York Rangers. The earliest they will play is Feb. 9 against Pittsburgh. Their next meetings with the Sabres are Feb. 20 and 22 in Prudential Center. The NHL said it is reviewing and revising the team's schedule. The league's protocol list does not differentiate between positive tests, players listed as close contacts or players serving required quarantines. Goaltender Aaron Dell has been on the list while quarantining after being claimed on waivers from Toronto. Goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood went on the list Jan. 22 and remains out. Veteran center Travis Zajac was added to the list Saturday and did not appear against the Sabres, and veteran winger Kyle Palmieri played here Saturday and then was sidelined for Sunday's game due to Covid protocols.
