Z. flava and Z. sakagutii and another pair of species of Rhomboda, R. moulmei- nensis and R. fanjingensis, are so similar that they are frequently misidentified. In this paper, based on field observations, study of type specimens and protologues, illustrations and comparisons of these two pairs of confused species are provided to enable identification. Key words: Chinese orchids, Rhomboda, Zeuxine Introduction Zeuxine Lindley (1826: 18) and Rhomboda Lindley (1857: 181) belong to subtribe Goodyerinae (Orchidoideae; Cranichideae; Pridgeon et al. 2003a, 2003b). Zeuxine comprises about 80 species distributed in tropical and southern Africa through tropical and subtropical Asia, to New Guinea, northeastern Australia, and the southwestern Pacific islands; with 14 species occurring in China, two of them are endemic (Chen et al. 2009b). Flowers of Zeuxine species are nearly always white or green, but a few are yellow. -

(≡ Hetaeria affinis (Griff.) Seidenf. & Ormerod) has been traced and an epitype is selected for the name as all the available ‘original materials’ fail to depict the diagnostic characters of the species. Key words: CAL, epitype, Goodyera affinis, Goodyerinae, Hetaeria affinis, Orchidaceae, typification. Goodyera affinis Griff. (Orchidaceae) was Herbarium no. 315’) was lost, but they did first described by William Griffith (1851a) not mention where it was actually kept before in ‘Notulae Plantas Asiaticas, vol. 3’ which disappearing. Later Pearce and Cribb (2002) Seidenfaden and Ormerod (Ormerod 2001) indirectly mentioned that the lost holotype was transferred to Hetaeria Lindl. (as H. affinis deposited at K (as ‘holo. K, lost’), whereas (Griff.) Seidenf. & Ormerod). Hetaeria affinis is Averyanov (2008) followed Seidenfaden and characterized by hammer-shaped petals which Ormerod (Ormerod 2001) and did not mention are gibbous on one side towards the dorsal sepal the location of the holotype. During herbarium and hypochile with 1 entire or 3–5-fid appendage consultation at CAL we have found a herbarium on each side. This terrestrial orchid is scarcely sheet (Fig. 1) with two specimens of G. affinis distributed in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, mounted on a single sheet (single preparation). -

Goodyerinae in the Rijksher- Going Through Barium, Several Sumatra

Introduction The subtribe Orchidaceae-Goodyerinae is well represented in Malesia, with about 25 genera and hundreds of species. They are almost exclusively terrestrial plants with inconspicuous flowers, usually growing in deep shade in undisturbed forests. Many seem to prefer sloping terrain with seeping water. Some have very beautiful foliage and with are occasionally (often difficulty) cultivated, being popularly known as Jewel of the Orchids, e.g. species genera Anoectochilus, Dossinia, Goodyera, Ludisia, and Macodes. The of the other either have great majority Goodyerinae uniformly greenor cryptic darkbrown foliage. Although the genera ofthe Goodyerinae are reasonably distinct, it is often necessary to analyse a flowerbefore a reliable identification can be made. As a result they are fre- quently left unidentified, or, worse, they are incorrectly referred to generaof which the name is more or less familiar, such as Anoectochilus and Goodyera. While going through the unidentified and misidentified Goodyerinae in the Rijksher- barium, several interesting discoveries were made. Two of these are discussed below. Kuhlhasseltia cf. javanica J.J. Smith Mamas River Sumatra, Aceh, Upper valley, 1400-1700m (De Wilde & De Wilde- 18264 June Duyfjes , 1979). The genus Kuhlhasseltia, although widely distributedfrom PeninsularMalaysia to New Guinea with about7 species, is rarely collected. This appears to be the first record from Sumatra. Notes on Some Malesian Orchidaceae
NOTES ON SOME MALESIAN ORCHIDACEAE PAUL ORMEROD,1, 2 MARK A. NAÏVE,3 AND JIM COOTES4 Abstract. Herbarium and literature studies of various orchids from the Malesian floristic zone reveal some new species, synonymy, and the need for a few nomenclatural proposals. Thus, the synonymy of Cestichis halconensis is elaborated; Cymboglossum is found to be the older name for Ascidieria, requiring 8 transfers; Dendrobium appendiculoides is reduced to D. zamboangense; Dendrobium philippinense is reduced to D. gerlandianum; Epidendrum subulatum is reduced to Thrixspermum filiforme; Eria section Polyura is transferred to Pinalia; Eria villosissima is transferred to Mycaranthes; and Myrmechis philippinensis is renamed Odontochilus marivelensis. Six new species are proposed, namely, Dendrobium rubroflavum, Pinalia edanoana, P. kitangladensis, P. pentalopha, P. sanguinea, and P. tonglonensis. Additions to the Goodyerinae (Orchidaceae) of Guyana

A New Species of Microchilus (Goodyerinae, Orchidaceae) from Peru

A new species of Microchilus Presl is described and illustrated based on Peruvian material. The new entity resembles M. laegaardii Ormerod, from which it differs by the long leaf petiole and sheath, as well as by spur length and lip form. I am told that it was yet another fantastc orchid show for the orchid lovers from Bengaluru and also the visitors. I really missed it, as Chairman I was away and requested Dr. Hegde to brief all the people who missed Dr. Sadananda Hegde with a note and pictures. Thanks Dr. Hegde. Organizing a show is a humongous task, it is not only logistcs, there are umpteenth issues to Members be coordinated and put together on tme. Well, the team has done it Mr. S. G. Ramakumar again, once again congratulatons for the entre team to have done it Mr. Sriram Kumar successfully for the fih tme. TOSKAR has successfully created interest amongst the hobbyists and which is also one of its objectves. Editor Winter has really set in here, for the last fortnight (from Dec 10 Dr. K. S. Shashidhar onwards tll now) the night temperatures are hovering between 12-14 C. In a way this is good for species from North East as thy need cool and Associate Editor dry nights, hopefully Bangalore growers should be happy with this.
