The University of Houston-Victoria athletic department has been competing in intercollegiate sports since 2008 when baseball and softball were introduced. In the fall of 2010 the university added men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s golf to the program, with all six teams competing in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Jaguars joined the Association of Independent Institutions Conference in 2009 with the baseball team having won two conference titles and the softball team one. Here’s a look at some of the highlights of those teams during the years:

BASEBALL: The Jaguars went 29-5 in their 2008 inaugural year and won the A.I.I. Conference title in 2009 and 2010 to reach the NAIA Champion- ships Opening Round. Following the 2012 season, Tanner Hamilton be- came the first Jaguar to reach the professional ranks when he signed a free-agent contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

SOFTBALL: The Jaguars have won 30-plus game in each of their first five years and captured their lone A.I.I. Conference title in 2009 and earned a trip to the NAIA National Champion- ships where they finished 1-2 in pool play. After posting their most suc- cessful season ever with a 40-10 record, the Jaguars returned to the NAIA National Championships this past season where they again went 1 -2 in pool play.

MEN’S SOCCER: The UHV program began in 2010 with the Jaguars going 3-11-2 with their first win coming in a 4-0 decision over Texas Lutheran. Last season the program finished with a 6-10-1 mark.

WOMEN’S SOCCER: The UHV women also began play in 2010 and finished at 2-13 that first year. Last season the Jaguars began to find success with a 5-10-1 record. The program’s first win came in a 1-0 victory over Concordia University of Austin.

MEN’S GOLF: Hitting the links in 2010 the Jaguars earned two sec- ond-place team finishes, including a runners-up finish in the A.I.I. Championships. In 2011, Jonathan Allen became the first individual winner for the Jaguars when he won the Texas Lutheran John Boh- mann Invitational with a 7-under par 209.

WOMEN’S GOLF: The UHV women picked up their first team title in the 2011 season winning the UT-Dallas Invitational after posting an opening round 347 in the rain-shortened event. Whitley Patterson won the team’s first-ever individual title in the Jaguars very first tournament in 2010 when she won the TLU Lady Bulldog Fall Classic.
