Dear Current UNL Student,

Omicron Delta Kappa is a National Leadership that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership, and exemplary character. Membership in Omicron Delta Kappa is a mark of highest distinction and honor.

Omicron Delta Kappa was founded December 3, 1914, at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, by fifteen student and faculty leaders. The society recognizes achievement in: · Scholarship · Athletics · Campus or community service, social, religious activities, and campus government · Journalism, speech and the mass media · Creative and performing arts Chartered here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in November 1998, the members of The Circle have ideal character, responsible leadership and service in campus or community life, superior scholarship, genuine fellowship, and consecration of democratic ideals. Emphasis is placed on the development of the whole person, both as a member of the college community and as a contributor to a better society.

What makes The Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa a unique society at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln is our inclusion of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty as active members of our leadership circle. We strive to bring members of the University community together on a basis of mutual interest, understanding, and collaboration.

The Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa has established and participated in a variety of activities that fulfill the Omicron Delta Kappa ideal by continually connecting with faculty, staff, and other student organizations.

To qualify for membership in Omicron Delta Kappa, students must meet the following requirements:

1. Undergraduate students must have completed at least five semesters as a full-time student (three semesters for transfer students) at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. 2. Senior or Graduate Student standing during the 2016-2017 school year. 3. Cumulative grade point average must be in the top 35% of class within respective college. 4. An achievement of distinction in one of the five areas of leadership listed on this application.

Please create a detailed resume listing all of your college activities that relate to the Omicron Delta Kappa “Idea” of the five major phases of campus life (Note: For evaluation purposes, do not include your name on any of the following information. Applicants need not be involved in all five phases to apply.):

III. Essay Questions

Using a separate sheet of paper for each question, answer the following questions. Please limit each answer to 300 words.

1. Describe who or what inspired you to pick your major. 2. Pick one organization (on or off campus) you are passionate about and explain why. If you feel this question will be better answered through a creative project, feel free to do so. Either option will be weighed equally. 3. When is a time you worked with someone different than yourself to accomplish a common goal? How did you embrace this difference? 4. Why do you want to be a member of Omicron Delta Kappa?

Any student who applies to more than one UNL senior honorary must complete this confidential preference form. This form will be viewed only by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. No member of any senior honorary will know who has applied to what organizations, nor will any member know what preferences were indicated. This form will be destroyed after the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs assures that individual student preferences are honored.

If applying to all three organizations, please rank the order of your preferences by placing a “1” next to your first choice, a “2” next to your second, and a “3” by your third.
