BACKGROUND 1.1 Team Mandate To assist the Counties to meet set irreducible minimum standards, and to enhance attainment of the overriding National Universal Health Coverage Agenda, a team of 154 officers were commissioned to the exercise by the Cabinet Secretary for Health on 7th July 2020 , and commenced ground work on Phase I of the Technical Assistance exercise from 14th July 2020, for a period of 30 days. This would be followed by Phase II UHC Technical Assistance thereafter. The irreducible minimums were organized into terms of reference across nine thematic areas as follows. 1.1.1 County Capacity i). County infrastructure including bed count to support pandemic and essential services delivery. ii). Human Resources for Health capacity in the County iii). Availability of essential equipment and health commodities. 1.1.2 Quality of service, i). Laboratory testing, contact tracing, case management, quarantine and isolation. ii). Functionality of the supply chain in the County. 1.1.3 County Administration, Operations and Safety i). Communication/information sharing - national, inter county, public channels. ii). County Emergency Rapid Response team (RRT’s) and Multiagency teams (MAT’s). iii). County financing mechanisms and cost management for pandemic cases iv). County Risk Management Systems, risk identification and mitigation strategies. 1.2 Technical Reporting This report is a high level summary to highlight the key findings and conclusions of the Technical assistance teams efforts from July 14 th to August 6 th 2020. The findings will be discussed with the team leaders from the Technical Experts and the County Executive. A detailed report will thereafter, be prepared for onward transmission to the Ministry. 1.3 Methodology The Technical teams in collaboration with the CHMT’s, and Health Systems Inspectors utilized a combined check list to objectively score the following health facility areas: Section 1: Facility Preparedness Marks 1.   • Cholera Outbreak Has Affected 7 Counties: Nairobi, Migori, Homa Bay, Bomet, Mombasa, Nakuru and Muranga Counties
    MINISTRY OF HEALTH CHOLERA SITUATION REPORT IN KENYA AS AT 5TH MAY 2015 Weekly Situation Summary Since 26th December 2014, Cholera outbreak has affected 7 counties: Nairobi, Migori, Homa Bay, Bomet, Mombasa, Nakuru and Muranga Counties. Migori, Homabay and Bomet Cholera outbreaks are now considered successfully controlled The outbreak first started in Nairobi County on 26th December 2014. Later the outbreak was reported in Migori County on 30th January 2015, Homa Bay County on 2nd February 2015, Bomet County on 12th March 2015, Mombasa County on 6th April 2015, Nakuru 8th April and Muranga county on 18th April 2015. As of 5th May 2015, a total of 2156 cases and 42 deaths (CFR=1.9%) had been reported nationally distributed as follows: Nairobi 145 cases, 5 deaths (CFR 3.4%); Migori 915 cases, 12 deaths (CFR 1.3%); Homa Bay 377 cases, 5 deaths (CFR 1.4%) , Bomet 272 cases, 2 deaths (CFR 1.5%) ,Mombasa 69 cases, 5 deaths (CFR 7.2%), Muranga 278 cases, 1 death (0.4%), and Nakuru 100 cases, 12 deaths (CFR 12%) Cumulatively, 274 new cases were reported in the last one week (164 in Muranga, 73 in Nakuru, 17 in Mombasa and 20 in Nairobi). This is an increase from the previous week where 35 new cases were reported. 6 new deaths were reported in the last one week (5 in Nakuru and 1 in Nairobi). There are 34 current admissions in Mombasa, Nakuru and Nairobi Counties. 1 | Page New cases reported in Nairobi were detected in new epicentres- Kibera, Mukuru Kayiaba and Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums.

Conference, panel 16: “Country/Region-specific Knowledge Development Histories in Africa” Abstract Area studies have a long history, and so have academic centres dealing with specific areas (like the African Studies Centres) or the specific journals dealing with certain areas (like the Journal of Eastern African Studies). However, very few area studies specialists use an approach to study the historical development of knowledge about a specific area, as a kind of meta knowledge study. In this paper I will try to show what the knowledge development history is about the areas of the Pokot in Kenya and Uganda: what is the 'harvest' of specific knowledge about that area and its people? Who did influence whom? Where did the people come from who studied that area, and how did that change during a 150-year long period of written sources about the area? And what does it tell us about the 'knowledge hypes', the major topics studied in particular periods? With the assistance of google scholar it is possible to reconstruct the networks of references used in academic (and other) studies, next to doing a detailed analysis of the references used in scholarly work about an area. One of the interesting aspects in this paper will be the study of the types of sources used: academic/non-academic, languages used, disciplines used or neglected. This is work in progress. As an hypothesis we can already formulate the statement that the specific topic studied about an area often tells more about the (scientific/societal) questions relevant to the countries where scholars come from, than about the questions that are relevant for the situation in the particular area that is being studied.
