The fourth round began at 3:52 p.m., with groups teeing off until 5:01 p.m. The fourth round was suspended due to darkness at 7:02 p.m.; players had the option to finish the hole they were on. The course received .50 inches of rain on Saturday, approximately 1.6 inches total since Thursday. At the time of the darkness suspension during round four, the U.S. Team had won one match and were leading in one match. The International team led in two matches and one match was all-square. Since 1994, the United States team has outscored the International team 41-33 on the day two rounds of matches are played. Fred Couples was a Captain’s pick in 1998 and 2005. Below are the Captain’s pick results through round four. Overall Four-Ball Foursome International 3-4-0 0-3-0 3-1-0 (Brendon de Jonge and Marc Leishman) U.S. 4-2-1 2-1-1 2-1-0 (Webb Simpson and Jordan Spieth) Match 18 Jason Day/Graham DeLaet (International) halved with Phil Mickelson/Keegan Bradley (U.S.) Day and DeLaet have been paired together for all four rounds of The Presidents Cup 2013, and their record becomes 2-1-1 after Round Four. Mickelson and Bradley have also been paired together for all four rounds; their record is also 2-1-1. In their two wins this week, they began the match either 1-down (R2) or all square (R3). They went on to win in R2, 4 up; and won R3, 2 up. They lost the first hole in R4 and got to as many as three down through seven holes before fighting back to all square when play was called. Their only loss, in R1 Four-ball, they were 1 up after the first hole, eventually losing to Louis Oosthuizen/Charl Schwartzel, 2 and 1. Mickelson and Bradley’s record as a team in The Ryder Cup and The Presidents Cup is now 5-1-1. Phil Mickelson will face Angel Cabrera in Round Five Singles Matches; this is the first time the duo have squared off in singles since The Presidents Cup 2005, which they halved. Match 19 Jason Dufner/Zach Johnson (U.S.) defeated Richard Sterne/Marc Leishman (International) 4&3 In the only match of Saturday Foursomes that was completed before darkness, Zach Johnson holed out for eagle on No. 15 to end the match – Johnson hit a pitching wedge from 115 yards. Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson remained paired after losing their second-round match and sitting out the third round Four-ball matches. With this victory, their record in The Presidents Cup becomes 2-1-0 as a team in The Presidents Cup 2013. Johnson now boasts a 4-2-0 career record in The Presidents Cup Foursomes. Marc Leishman and Richard Sterne were paired together for the first time after both sat out the third round Four-ball matches. Leishman and Sterne were the only pairing featuring two Presidents Cup rookies in Saturday’s Four-ball matches. Richard Sterne has yet to win a match in The Presidents Cup; he was paired with Branden Grace in the first two rounds when they lost in both Four-ball and Foursomes, and he sat out the third round. Match 20 Bill Haas/Steve Stricker (U.S.) defeated Adam Scott/Hideki Matsuyama (International), 4 and 3 Scott and Matsuyama have been paired together in all four rounds – after the fourth round, their record is 1-2-1. The pair recorded two bogeys in Round 4; in the previous three rounds, they only recorded one bogey total (R3 – No. 10). This is the first time Bill Haas and Steve Stricker have been paired together in either The Presidents Cup or the Ryder Cup. Match 21 Brendon de Jonge and Ernie Els (International) defeated Tiger Woods and Matt Kuchar (U.S.), 1-up. Els and De Jonge have a 2-0 record in Foursomes at 2013 The Presidents Cup, they are also 0-2 in Four-ball. This is the first time Woods and Kuchar have lost at The Presidents Cup 2013, leaving no players with an undefeated record. When Woods and Kuchar went 2-down through five holes in the fourth round, it was only the only the second time in all four rounds of The Presidents Cup 2013 that Woods and Kuchar have been down by 2. They were two down through 3 holes in round three to Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Scott. Woods and Kuchar came back to win 1-up.
