Singapore Garden Photographer of the Year 2017 photo competition

The Garden Photographer of the Year (SGPY), a year-long national photo competition, aims to create a greater appreciation and awareness of our natural heritage through the lens of the community. It was first launched in 2014 in celebration of Singapore’s 50th birthday.

The SGPY 2017 photo competition was officially launched on 29 November 2016 and invited participants to submit photographs of what they think best represents three themes – “Gardens and Landscapes”, “People and Nature” and “Our BiodiverCITY”. The competition features an open category and Instagram category. For the open category, a maximum of 10 photographs per theme is allowed for each participant. For the Instagram category, there is no limit on the number of entries that can be submitted.

Theme 1 (Gardens and Landscapes) and Theme 2 (People and Nature) attracted more than 8,000 entries in total. Theme 3 (Our BiodiverCITY) and Theme 3A – Marine Biodiversity (Our BiodiverCity) of the competition are currently ongoing and will close on 23 August 2017.

Participants compete for cash and camera prizes worth about $30,000. The top three winners will receive $4,500 worth of cash prizes and Nikon cameras. There will also be eight merit prizes worth $250 each and 10 Instagram prizes worth about $100 each. A special prize will be awarded to the photograph that best exemplifies what it means to be living in a City in a Garden. The winner will receive $1,000 cash and a guided walk for two to the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park.

The competition’s presenting sponsor is City Developments Limited (CDL), supported by Nikon and the Photographic Society of Singapore (PSS).
