MEDICATION SUMMIT STARTS IN NEW YORK FEATURE PRESENTATION • G1 QUEEN ANNE S. The International Summit on Race Day Medication, EIPH and the Racehorse opened Monday at Belmont Park. The primary goal of the Summit, as National Thoroughbred Racing Association President and CEO Alex Waldrop explained, was Ato inform and to foster interaction with our colleagues from across the globe. Our perspective will be a new one for many in the >CAN= DO room, because of the Today s G1 Queen Anne S. represents a true face-off = international view of the between the two leading older milers in Goldikova (Ire) issue.@ Waldrop added, AWe (Anabaa) and Canford Cliffs (Ire) (Tagula {Ire}), both of want it to be a fair whom are unbeaten at this meeting. In brushing aside the Italian heavyweight Worthadd (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in that Newbury mile contest May 14, the colt owned by the Heffer Syndicate, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith shot a warning across the bows of the Wertheimer-Head team. ACanford Cliffs is the big one, not just on the first day, but of the whole week, and his preparation for the Queen Anne could not have gone any better,@ Hannon said yesterday. AHe has looked better than ever this season and has improved since the Lockinge. He was entitled to be a bit rusty at Newbury, as he had been off since Glorious Goodwood last year. While he can sometimes be a bit switched off in the mornings, [Richard Hughes] woke him up on the gallops last week and they then went to Kempton, where he looked really sharp. We are under no illusions how tough it will be to beat Goldikova, who is a 13-time Grade/Group 1 winner, but the French mare cannot possibly be getting any better at the age of six, and we will sit a bit closer to the pace and hope to do her for finishing speed, like we did Rip Van Winkle (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) at Goodwood last year.@ Cont. p2 P TDN HEADLINE NEWS • 6/14/11 • PAGE 2 of 15 • thoroughbreddailynews.com Queen Anne cont. • HOW WE GOT HERE I Imagine If You Are Reading This, We Share Something in Common--The Love of Horses and Horse Racing
FRIDAY, APRIL 5, 2019 TAKING STOCK: OP/ED: NEVER LET A GOOD CRISIS GO TO WASTE by Boyd Browning HOW WE GOT HERE I imagine if you are reading this, we share something in common--the love of horses and horse racing. Like me, you may even make your living and provide for family by working in this industry. When I get the TDN Alerts at night that another important governing body is calling for an end to racing or to shut down the track, I feel sick to my stomach and can't sleep. And then I get up in the morning and read/listen to the finger pointing and infighting within the industry. The "blame game" must stop immediately and we can either work together to make smart decisions that reflect the world we live in and survive, or we can continue to fight with one another about who's right and who's wrong. We must recognize and embrace meaningful change to protect and care for the horse.
