Games Family Hotel Manager

1. JOB PURPOSE

In July 2022, will host the XXII , the largest multi-sport event to be held in in 10 years. Approximately 6,500 athletes and team officials from 72 nations and territories across the Commonwealth will come together in a 12-day celebration of sport and culture. Events will take place across Birmingham and the West Midlands, entertaining more than one million ticketed spectators and reaching a global broadcast audience of more than one billion.

Each of the signatories to the Host City Contract (HCC); the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), UK Government, and Commonwealth Games England (CGE) together with the Organising Committee (OC) have key roles role in the planning and delivery of the , both individually and collectively to ensure that the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the host community legacies derived from hosting the Games are a huge success.

The parties to the HCC have established Birmingham Organising Committee for the 2022 Commonwealth Games Ltd as the Organising Committee (‘OC’). The scope of the OC’s role is broad and complex and ranges from ensuring the physical readiness of the venues and temporary facilities, to the planning, coordination and delivery of more than 40 operational functions such as transport, security and catering to meet

the needs of the Games, including the athletes, technical officials, spectators, press, broadcasters and other Games Family and stakeholders.

The OC and partners are committed to delivering the Games as efficiently and effectively as possible to ensure the event is sustainable and accessible to all in the long term. We are seeking individuals to join us who are innovative, commercially astute and have a genuine passion and interest in delivering the most sustainable, inclusive and accessible Commonwealth Games to date.

The Games Family Services Functional Area is divided into two key areas:

• CGA Relations • Protocol

CGA Relations is established as the primary communication channel between Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee (OC) and the Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs), whilst ensuring that CGAs receive consistent and correct levels of service, thereby allowing all CGAs an equal platform for fair play and competition. Protocol provides services to the members of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), Presidents and Secretaries General of Commonwealth Games Associations and International Federations (IFs), Dignitaries, and other accredited Dignitaries/VIPs, both prior to, during and through to the completion of the Commonwealth Games.

Birmingham 2022 are looking for an experienced events professional who has a background in hotel and/or multi-sport event management to join our Games Family Services team. The primary function of the Games Family Hotel Manager is to provide services to the guests of the Commonwealth Games Federation, including Presidents and Secretaries General of Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs) and International Federations (IFs), Dignitaries, and other accredited Dignitaries/VIPs, as well as to deliver protocol-related services in general, both prior to and during the Commonwealth Games – this includes two high profile pre Games events and Opening & Closing Ceremonies. 2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES • Act as the point of contact for all internal and external enquiries regarding the Birmingham 2022 Games Family Hotel.

• Within the Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee, lead all aspects of planning and delivery processes for designated guests of Birmingham 2022 at the Games Family Hotel in Birmingham, both prior to and during the Games.

• Manage the Games Family Services FA with planning and preparation of any Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) events including General Assemblies, Executive Meetings.

• Have responsibility for the planning for the Games Family Hotel Operation during the 2022 Chefs de Mission seminar.

• Design, implement and manage an Opening and Closing Ceremony Reception for the Games Family Client group.

• As directed, provide accurate, relevant and up-to-date advice to FAs in relation to the Games Family Hotel.

• Be the point of contact for organising and implementing any pre-Games related visits to the Games Family Hotel.

• Train, manage and motivate a team of Birmingham 2022 Volunteers who will be based at the Games Family Hotel.

• Lead the Birmingham 2022 Team who will be based at the Games Family Hotel during the competition phase of the Birmingham 2022 Games.

• Manage several Games Family Services FA processes during competition phase of the Birmingham 2022 Games, such as the Prime Event Access (PEA) process and the management of Medal/Gift Presenters.

• Support to various projects within the Games Family Relations and Protocol department as required.

• Responsibilities of the role will evolve during the lifespan of the Organising Committee and it is likely that the role profile will evolve with the changing needs of the Organising Committee. 3. PERSON SPECIFICATION a) Skills and experience required
