Participants can choose to complete all exams and to write the Master's thesis in either language. Tuition fees per semester in None EUR Combined Master's degree / No PhD programme Joint degree / double degree No programme Description/content The KSM Master's is a two-year, full-time post-graduate study programme that involves seminars, lectures, projects, presentations and examinations. The KSM Master's programme focuses on the study of cultural modernity in language and literature as well as culture, art, textiles, media and business studies at the interfaces of the Baltic, North Sea, and North Atlantic zones, as well as in the French- and Spanish-speaking world (depending on the focus each student decides upon). Credits are gained by research-oriented, postgraduate study of the culture, literature, language and visual media (arts, fashion, film). 2 Graduates of the KSM Master's programme have an in-depth understanding of European and transatlantic modernity, including postcolonial aspects. They also have an understanding of points of cultural intersection in the Scandinavian, German and English-speaking world and can opt to deepen their knowledge in these fields in the French- and Spanish-speaking world. Graduates also have knowledge of the range of theoretical ideas, traditions and movements informing these fields; a grounding in the research methods and practices of art, cultural, literary, linguistic and media studies; and a knowledge of cross-cultural business studies. The KSM MA programme offers an optional double degree with Penza State University in Penza, Russia. (Check our website for more details.) KSM offers the only postgraduate study programme in Europe with this research constellation. Course Details Course organisation The programme includes six key disciplines: culture, literature, language, media, art/textiles, and business studies. All six disciplines need to be taken in the first semester. Study options in these six disciplines as well as options for progressive specialisation are offered from semester two onwards, thus permitting students to choose between generalist studies or increasing specialisation. The first three study semesters are consecutively structured within thematic complexes across the six main KSM disciplines offered: Semester one: "Interculturality" Semester two: "Contact & Conflict" Semester three: "Identity and Alterity" Semester four is dedicated to the completion of a student's Master's thesis. Projects and work practicals are to be completed during semesters one through four. All exams can be taken and the Master's thesis can be written in either English or German. Types of assessment In semester one, students write a take-home essay. Semester two concludes with a semester paper and a multimedia portfolio. Students in semester three participate in one oral exam and also complete a research proposal. In semester four, students write their Master's theses. All of these assessments can be completed in either English or German. They must also pay about 240 EUR per semester (semi-annually) to the Studentenwerk. This contribution covers public transport within the state of Schleswig-Holstein and in the city of Hamburg. It also covers administrative fees and gives students access to subsidised meal prices in the university cafeteria (Mensa) and discounted student membership in the university's sports centre and classes. Costs of living The cost of living is generally a bit lower than in major German cities. A budget of 700 to 850 EUR per month should cover the basic cost of living, including rent. Language requirements Knowledge of both German and English in a minimal combination of either: a) German C1 and English B2 b) German B2 and English C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages You can apply to the programme without having available proof of language proficiency. In this case, you will be matriculated provisionally and given a deadline by which the missing language 4 proficiency certificates need to be submitted. In a post-industrial society, the importance of information increases at an uncontrollable rate that leads to new challenges in the educational environment and especially in general educational institutions. The aim of the article is to analyze the successful experience of project work implementation in the field of media education in Germany in the conditions of a full-day training system for analyzing the possibilities of its implementation to domestic pedagogy. Materials and Methods Observation method, expert interviews and surveys were used for data collection and processing. The research was conducted in the framework of the implementation of DAAD Research Programme at the European University of Flensburg and full-day schools in Hamburg. A sample set of empirical research includes 350 students, 25 teachers, 12 school counselors, 12 full-day school principals in Hamburg and Schleswig- Holstein. Research results. As a result of the observation, an understanding of the forms and methods of project work was obtained, various relationships were established between media education, project work and the achievement of social and personal competencies (soft skills). The analyzed documents show clear dynamics in the field of legalization of project activities and understanding of the need to achieve social and personal competencies through project work.

Introduction Fig. 1: freight and persons crossing the Danish borders, 2006 and 2009/2011 The Danish-German border is short in comparison to other EU internal borders. Still it is relevant also as the border between the continent and Scandinavia, or the countries within the Nordic Council. The border’s history is conflict ridden. It was drawn in 1920, together with other new borders drawn in connection with the post WW-I order in Europe, reflecting (not only) the result of a plebiscite. The decades from 1920 to the 1950’s witnessed a bordering process with clear demarcation as well as the introduction of strict visa regimes and migration restriction, accompanied by the cut of economic flows and continued political challenges to the exact location of the border. Especially Denmark was interested in securing the border from possible German claims of revision. This changed only after Denmark joined the EC in 1973. Infrastructure investments as a freeway (opened fully in 1983) connecting the Jutland peninsula with the Hamburg metropolitan area and its seaport (2nd-3rd in Europe), the shorter “line as the birds fly” rail and road connection across Fehmarn-Lolland, disrupted by a 1 h ferry passage (1963), the introduction of frequent ferry services on the Rostock-Gedser route after German reunification (1990) and the planned fixed link under the Fehmarn Belt together with railway and road improvements on both shores (opening in the 2020’s) have made the region the major transport corridor between Europe and Scandinavia.

    Call to the State Government and State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg No Tuition Fees for Students from Developing Countries! Tuition Fees Hinder Development Cooperation! Experts from the areas of development research, development policy, and education for sustainable development call for the state government and state parliament of Baden- Württemberg to stop plans to introduce tuition fees for students from developing countries. The state of Baden-Württemberg plans to collect 1500 euros per semester in tuition fees from international students who are not from EU countries. This measure disproportionately affects students from developing countries, who make up more than two-thirds of the non-EU students in Baden-Württemberg.1 In the draft legislation from the state government, only minimal exceptions for students from developing countries are included. Other states might follow Baden- Württemberg’s example. The signatories of this Declaration are watching this development with a great deal of concern. They reject the introduction of tuition fees for students from developing countries for the following reasons: 1.) Tuition fees for students from developing countries hinder development cooperation Educating experts and managers from developing countries is a key component of development cooperation, as investments in education are one of the most effective and sustainable measures in development promotion.2 By educating students from developing countries, the universities make an important contribution to fighting poverty and creating sustainable development and thus also to fighting the causes of flight. After finishing their studies, students from developing countries make significant contributions to solving development-related problems in their home countries as experts and managers, as they often take on key positions in public administration, universities, and development cooperation projects or in the private sector.
