Seoul Hotel Reservation Form EN—(115) HOTEL RESERVATION FORM 2016 Rotary International Convention Seoul, Republic of Korea 28 May-1 June 2016 Save time . book online! Check current availability at www.onpeak.co/rotary. Rotary International (RI), in conjunction with onPeak, has reserved a block of rooms for Rotarian use during the convention. All reservation requests will be handled by onPeak. Please direct all housing questions and correspondence to onPeak (see contact information below). Reservations will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Return your completed reservation form by 17:00 Central Time (GMT minus five hours) on 15 April 2016. onPeak may be unable to fill requests received after this date. Complete one housing form for each room required. For a block of 15 rooms or more, submit the Group Housing Form, available at www.riconvention.org. All efforts will be made to secure a room for you at your preferred hotel. However, onPeak reserves the right to secure alternate accommodations for you if necessary. Acceptable credit cards are American Express, Visa, and MasterCard. Credit cards will not be charged when the reservation is made. onPeak will forward the credit card information to the relevant hotel, and when the hotel has received all reservation details in April 2016, it will charge the card for a one night’s room and tax deposit. CANCELLATIONS/NO-SHOWS/CHANGES If you need to make changes or cancellations to your reservation, please do so in writing with onPeak. Change and cancellation dead- lines vary. Changes and cancellations after the date specified must be made directly with the hotel or you will lose your deposit. The hotel contact information is provided on your acknowledgment. Transportation in Seoul 1.1. Introduction Seoul has been vitally functioning as a national capital of Korea for more than 600 years. Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) reaches an area of 11,776 km2, includes 23cities, and carries 23.2 million populations. Seoul holds 44.2% (10.28 million) of the total population of SMA, and it is 21% of entire nation's population. In addition, Seoul is holding economic capability of 123 trillion Won accounting for 22% of total GNP. Population density of SMA, one of the most densely populated areas in the world, is 1,973 people/km2. Seoul is located at the center of SMA, and her population density is 16,959/km2, and 30 million trips (trip for means) in SMA are generated everyday from or to Seoul. Hosting 1988 Seoul Olympic and 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup successfully, Seoul is expected to grow up as a main hub of Northeast Asia in the global perspective. Since the launch of subway Line 1 in 1974, total length of 287 km and 8 lines of subway has been constructed and in operation. Line 9 is under construction, and the extension plan of the existing subway lines such as Line 3 and 7 are actively in progress. 1.2. Population and vehicles Population of Seoul is 10.28 million in 2003. The population had grown up by 1990 but tended to decline since 1990, because of the sprawl of SMA and the population migration triggered by the construction of new towns.

Groth Fall 2013 Abstract Spectacular Cities, Speculative Storytelling: Korean TV Dramas and the Selling of Place By Youjeong Oh Doctor of Philosophy in Geography University of California, Berkeley Professor You-tien Hsing, Chair This dissertation examines the relationships between popular culture, cities, and gendered social discourses, with a focus on contemporary Korean television dramas. Existing studies about Korean dramas have relied upon economic and cultural analysis to, in effect, celebrate their vibrant export to overseas markets and identify why they are popular in other East Asian countries. This study expands the scope into spatial and social realms by examining cities’ drama-sponsorship and drama-driven social activities. Deploying popular culture as an analytical category directly shaping and transforming material, urban and social conditions, I argue that the cultural industry of Korean television dramas not only functions as its own, dynamic economic sector, but also constitutes urban processes and social discourses of contemporary South Korea. Drawing upon interdisciplinary methods including ethnography and content analysis, I examine Korean television dramas from the multiple vantage points of producers, audience, storytelling, and city-sponsorship, and elucidate why and how these four arenas are deeply intertwined. Their mutual entanglement, in turn, requires us to see Korean television dramas as more than just commercial entertainment; they become a medium through which we can contemplate labor conditions in the cultural industry, the political economies of development in regional cities, and gender politics in Korea.
