Located in the Southern part of city approximately 3kilometers from the city center it is the designated head quarters of west health sub-district. OWNERSHIP

The hospital is owned by the Archdiocese of Kampala INCEPTION.

It was founded in 1903 by Mother Mary Kevin and it was run by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa who later on handed it over to the Little Sisters of St. Francis. The hospital has always born the name St.Francis hospital –Nsambya until it entered into a major collaboration with St.Raphael Hospital Milano that saw the name change to St.Raphael of St Francis hospital Nsambya.

HISTORY

Nsambya hospital is a tertiary care referral hospital located in the southern part of Kampala city approximately 3kilometers from the city center.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Setting up an ICU that continues to improve. Setting up a quality assurance department that monitors quality continuously and we are now establishing standard operating procedures to assure quality.

Very well equipped laboratory service and of recent a modern histopathology unit

Set up a modern out patient department that awaits opening.

Infection prevention and control is being practiced since its introduction with the continuous supervision of the infection prevention and control committee.

The Emergency Nurses continue to be stationed at OPD Customer Care Desk to receive the emergency cases and to perform of a customer the role of customer care, assisted by the Auxiliary staff. They have done a great job to ensure prompt attention to patients.

Natural Family Planning was reactivated by the Public Health Nurse with the help of other midwives working in the A.N.C. (Antenatal Clinic). The clinic is carried out on WEDNSDAYS and FRIDAYS afternoon.

Health Education Talks were introduced to the wards like Post natal ward, surgical ward, postal natal ward and Ante natal ward.

STAFF HOUSES: we do have some staff houses. ELECTRITY: is supplied with electricity in all places and we also have a standby generator.

WATER: is supplied with running tap water from National Water and Sewerage Corporation

AMBULANCE: 2 ambulances in good working condition.

VISTINING HOURS

6:30am – 8am

1:00pm – 2:30pm

5:00pm - 9:00pm

ADMISSIONS: It is done after doctor’s review of the patient deciding if the patient is to go back home or to be admitted, normally take 45 minutes depending on the condition.

REGISTRATION: done for every patient it is a short process.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Public events: we do send nursing students and ambulances to public events to help for example WARD AIDS day, Uganda Martyrs’ day Hero’s day Independence Day.

Blood Donation days: we have held blood donation sessions in December in the past when there is a critical shortage of donors.
