THE BYLAWS OF THE AQUILA CHAPTER OF LAMBDA SIGMA UPSILON LATINO FRATERNITY, INC. Article I – Organization and Government Section 1 General The Aquila Chapter shall consist of Undergraduate and Graduate brothers of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. Section 2 Established The Aquila Chapter was founded on December 1st, 2007. Recognized by University at Albany, SUNY on May 14th, 2007. Section 3 Nickname The Aquila Chapter nickname shall be the “The Murderous” Aquila Chapter. Section 4 Motto The Aquila Chapter motto shall be: Where Earth Meets Heaven and Hell! Section 5 Symbol The Aquila Chapter symbol shall be the Bold Eagle. Section 6 Sisters The Aquila Chapter, chapter sisters shall be when established the sisters of Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc. Section 7 Chapter Philanthropy The Aquila Chapter, chapter philanthropy shall be The Damien’s Center. Section 8 Chapter Salute The Aquila Chapter Salute shall be the following: People speak about heaven,And people speak about hell But when it comes to purgatory,Its a story u never tell Some people ask questions,And others just wonder (But we'll give u a brief outline of the daily thunder),I've been to hell and back and i paid my dues, People say stay strong but they have no idea what I go through If you only knew... IF YOU ONLY KNEW! But let us leave it at that, we'll let you fill in the blanks This is THE MURDEROUS AQUILA, you have to earn the right to join the ranks No exceptions, this is pledging, in its rawest form This is do or die, hell AND heaven, since the day you're born! Article II – Chapter Executive Board Section 1 Purpose The Aquila Chapter Executive Board shall be the managerial, executive, and governing board of the chapter. It shall enact all legislation set forth by the brothers and shall promulgate regulations when deemed necessary. The Aquila Chapter Executive Board shall also set the direction of the chapter. 4 Section 2 Attendance All Executive Board members of the Aquila Chapter must attend all Chapter meetings, Executive Board meetings, and all emergency meetings (within reason). Aquila Chapter Executive Board members must have documented proof or justified reason (determined by president) as to why he cannot attend a meeting. If a member has one absence without approval or 24 hour notice, that board member shall be given a warning; the second offense shall be grounds for removal. Section 3 Composition of Aquila Chapter Executive Board The Aquila Chapter Executive Board positions are: a) President b) Vice-President c) Treasurer d) Secretary e) Public Relations f) Programming Chair g) Community Service Chair h) Alumni Chapter Advisor i) Academic Chair j) Perfromance Team Coordinator(s) k) Council Representative (add-on) l) Cacique This list is not all inclusive. Section 4 Qualifications The following qualifications must be met in order to be nominated and accepted to the following Aquila Chapter Executive Board Positions: a) Shall be enrolled at the University at Albany, SUNY. b) Must have a minimum 2.5 G.P.A. c) Shall be in good standing with the chapter. d) Must have been a member of the fraternity for a minimum of 1 academic semester for top four positions Section 5 Elections and Nominations of Aquila Chapter Executive Board The terms of the Aquila Chapter Executive Board shall be for one semester. Nominations and elections shall take place in April and November. All terms shall begin June 1 and January 1, respectively. 5 NOTE: Cacique position shall be 1 academic semester. Elections for Cacique occurs in December and May. Section 6 Duties and Power of Aquila Chapter Executive Board President a) To monitor and supervise the functioning of the chapter. Must present a chapter semester progress report at chapter retreat and provide report to Alumni Advisor, Greek Advisor and Regional Director. Report shall include but not limited to the following: Financial expenditure, programs and/or events held, fundraisers, community services, and “rum & salsa” informational with full details regarding outcome. b) Collaborates with Treasurer to record fines. c) Reports to the Office of Greek Affairs and Student Success and Involvement, regional director and national board. d) Chapter representative at IFC (Inter-Fraternity Council) Meetings. e) Chapter representative at LSU New York region meetings or appoints replacement representative. f) President has the power to call the Undegraduate Active brothers to a vote for the removal of a brother from Chapter Affairs if deemed necessary. Required ¾ vote of all Active Undergraduate Brothers who have paid dues. g) Appoints committees for chapter projects. h) Prepares meeting agendas and leads meetings. i) Has final vote, only in the case of a tie. j) Encourage and support the training of other chapter officers in their duties and responsibilities. k) Ensure that each officer and committee chair is familiar with his duties and responsibilities. l) To resolve any discrepancies in the chapter. m) Handles correspondence (e-mails, letters, memos etc.) related to the chapter. Vice President a) Fulfills President’s duties in President’s absence. b) Establish academic year and semester chapter goals. c) Create plan of action to effectively run chapter. d) Stay up to date on current fraternity news on region listservs and IFC council listserv. Checks LSU chapter e-mail account. Reports information at chapter meeting. e) Oversee chapter projects. f) Enforces chapter brothers responsibilities including paying chapter brother dues. Cacique 6 a) See LSU Law. b) Reference Cacique Manual c) Keep Chapter updated via weekly reports including, but not limited to, financial reports, NMEP calendar, and workshops. Treasurer a) Maintain chapter’s financial account. b) Collaborates with President to record fines. c) Receives all money and write all checks. d) Record money transactions and reports to President. e) Present the chapter's financial records at chapter meetings. f) Purchase all material needed for events funded by chapter account. g) Keep a set of financial records that shall be audited and notarized at the end of each officer term. h) Handle finance matters related to the University. i) Creates proposals to gain money for events. Secretary a) Take and present minutes at each chapter meeting. b) Post chapter meeting minutes in chapter’s Google Drive. c) Creates chapter calendar of events. d) Post events on region 4 yahoo and google listservs. e) Maintain Chapter Google Calendar f) Place all records in the Chapter Google Drive at the end of each academic year or semester. Public Relations a) Works collaboratively with Secretary. b) Takes pictures at events. c) Responsible for Chapter Social Media. d) Keep records of all chapter activities. e) Maintain an historical record of chapter events which may include photos, flyers and descriptions of chapter events. f) Place all records in the Chapter Google Drive at the end of each academic year or semester. Programming Chair a) Contact person for all related chapter programming events. b) Handle programming matters related to the University. 7 c) Generates new ideas for events during the academic year. d) Create flyer for event (duty may be re-assigned based on Brother’s flyer creation experience). e) Must approve flyer with Regional Board and Student Success and Involvment. f) Print and post flyers. g) Must advertise events through all sources of communication/social media. Community Service Chair a) Contact person for all related chapter community service events. b) Shall set the guidelines for chapter to follow regarding community service for the semester. c) Shall coordinate at least 1 major community service per semester. d) Shall work closely with the Office of Community Service on campus.
