We only justify one service each Sunday, but aim to cover all types. Many of the congregation live in other parishes, with some being previous residents, but are attracted to our traditional services. We look forward to a new Rector who can build on our traditions and with God’s guidance keep the parish alive. History St Michael’s Church, North Rode, between Macclesfield and Congleton, is a grade II listed building donated by the Daintry family, and consecrated in 1846. It was designed by Charles and James Trubshaw and stone built in mainly Romanesque and Gothic revival style with a tower housing a clock on the west side. Notable features are the hammer-beam roof, encaustic floor tiles incorporating the Daintry crest, four brass corona chandeliers over the aisle, and a small statue of St Michael in a niche above the south door. Later enhancements include wood carving on the altar, rood screen and font cover done by local people around 1900. In 1904 the new oak choir stalls were added, the work of the Macclesfield School of Carvers. The vicar’s vestry was added at a later date. The kneelers were all stitched in the 1970s by ladies in the village and were organised by the late Mrs Tudor Evans of the Grange.

Following the sad news that this newspaper’s founders - Emma Hunter and Victoria Williams - are moving on, we had feared that this would be our final special edition. However, we were delighted to learn last week that our friend and former Parish Councillor, Tina Royles, will be taking over this weekly, free paper from May 2nd. Tina will also take on these quarterly Tarporley Parish Council editions. We wish Tina well and would urge everyone in the village to support her as this precious village commodity enters a new era. Tarporley Parish Council Care Home Proposal Latest Liberty Properties - the company that wants to build a 65-bed ‘Nursing Care Facility’ and public car park in the centre of Tarporley - is hoping to submit a full planning application within the next few months. Following last year’s public consultation, a Cheshire West and Chester Heritage Officer has also offered feedback on the scheme, which would see land to the south of St Helen’s Parish Church being developed. Following a stipulation in the Tarporley Neighbourhood Plan about the need for car parking, the proposal includes a large public car park - with 85 spaces - in addition to a 23-space separate car park for the care home. Liberty Properties predict the ‘Class C2 Nursing Care Facility’, which would also offer dementia care, would provide 64 jobs.

The M6 and M56 motorways pass through this LAP. Turn right at the T junction then first left onto the B5250 to Eccleston. Go through Eccleston and you come to Heskin. The Farmer’s Arms is on your left. Park on the car park at the side of the Farmer’s Arms, Heskin. From the car park we head down Heskin Lane and take the footpath across the lane to Little Wood and Big Wood where we follow a road to Bradley Hall. Here we take the footpath past Wood End Farm and on to Commissary’s Farm where we go over the M6 and down the side of the motorway to Charnock Old Hall.
