August Home Sales Continue Positive Trends Number of Sales

August New Mexico real estate transactions reported to RANM continue July upward trends. 1,440 August 2012 sales were reported; 1,378 sales were reported in July 2012.

Median prices still continue their up and down variance depending on short sale volume each month. The August 2012 median of $169,773 is 3.5% higher than the August 2011 median of $164,000, but 3% less than the August 2010 median of $175,000.

The RANM REALTOR® of the Year is awarded annually to an outstanding leader who has committed time, talent, and expertise to the REALTOR® organization, their community, and to furthering the real estate profession.

This award was established in honor of former RANM Executive Vice President Peggy Comeau. It is given to a member who has never served as RANM President or been honored as RANM REALTOR® of the Year, to recognize his/her loyalty and selfless contributions to REALTORS® Association of New Mexico.

Property Tax Lightning Continues to Dominate RANM’s Legislative Priorities List

Among the approved, and ever-increasing RANM Legislative Priorities is Property Tax Lightning.

The semi-final proposal emanating from the Task Force:

1. Limit Valuation to 90% of market value in 2014 (need to repeal 7-36-21.2) and redefine Current and Correct as 90% of Market Value

2. Create a new homestead exemption

• 10% of taxable value for primary residence after 10 years of ownership

If the law was implemented in 2014, those with less than 10 years of ownership would have purchased their home after 2004, meaning their property was brought RPAC-NM to market value in the year following the sale. Bringing those properties to 90% of market should not require a large increase, if any at all. Fundraising Update

The second annual silent auction to benefit the RANM Benevolent Fund and the Stanley H. Mathis Foundation raised nearly $6,000 which will be split between these organizations.
