Jeff Melanson, Administrative Director 400 Jarvis Street Toronto Canada M4Y 2G6 T: 416. 964.3780 F: 416. 964.5145 WWW.NBS-ENB.CA For Immediate Release NBS students to perform at Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland Toronto, ON…January 22, 2007…Canada’s National Ballet School is pleased to announce that the Prix de Lausanne has invited NBS to participate in a special performance of John Neumeier’s celebrated ballet, Yondering, in Lausanne, Switzerland on Sunday, February 3rd, 2008. Eleven students from the School’s full-time Professional Ballet Program will participate in this exciting event, providing the unique opportunity to collaborate with two of NBS’s partner schools – the Hamburg Ballet School and the Paris Opera Ballet School – who are also part of the Yondering cast. The Sunday performance will make up the “Entreacte” presentation when the jury is deliberating to determine the results of the Prix de Lausanne finals but is not part of the competition itself. Traditionally this Entreacte is performed by professional dancers but this year is showcasing students from the world’s leading schools. “This is a wonderful way to celebrate the upcoming generation of dancers and is a testament to the ways in which dance can bring people together from all over the world”, said Mavis Staines, NBS Artistic Director and Prix de Lausanne Artistic President. Held annually, the Prix de Lausanne is a world-renowned ballet competition for young dancers aiming to pursue a professional dance career. Accepting dancers of all nationalities between the ages of 15 and 18, the purpose of the competition is to facilitate the debut of the prize winners by granting scholarships to any of the Prix de Lausanne partner dance schools or companies. Since the year 2000, six prize winners from the Prix de Lausanne have attended Canada’s National Ballet School.
