Groups Ages Description Participants must select the SAME variation for preliminary and final Pre- round. Wear soft ballet slippers; girls may wear pointe shoes but will 10-12 competitive not receive extra points. Variation may be slightly modified or simplified according to participant’s level. Junior 13-15 Participants may select SAME or DIFFERENT variation for preliminary and final round. Fill in the application clearly (changes Senior A 16-19 not permitted once submitted). (Russian or British Royal Ballet suggested) Contemporary 14-19 Upon registration, TGPIBC will provide a video of Judge Toro Shimazaki’s choreography, made specifically for TGPIBC participants. He will personally instruct participants during the competition. Solo: Preliminary Classes • Solo participants must participate in preliminary classes. Absence or lateness will result in disqualification. • The jury board will attend the classes and evaluate participants. • Preliminary classes are not opened to parents or instructors. Solo: Preliminary Stage • Participants must prepare their performance music themselves after choosing the version of their performance music. Pre-competitive, junior, and senior A/B participants should compete in current classical ballet variations, no choreography allowed. Email TGPIBC if you have any questions. For music requirements see below: “Music” Section • Participants that made into the final round will be announced after each group’s preliminary round. 2018 Taiwan Grand Prix International Ballet Competition 4 Ensemble: 6-20 participants, aged between 9-24, males & females *Age is strictly determined as of Aug 1st, 2018 1. There will only be one round of competition for the ensemble group. 2. A representative (18 years old) of the ensemble should be designated, participants ages 18 and below need their guardian’s agreement letter to compete. 3. Participants in the ensemble group may register for solo competitions, though may not participate as members in more than 2 ensembles. 4. Ensembles may choose to have participants wear soft slippers, pointe shoes, or a mix of both. 5. All participants of the ensemble must be present when the performance ends. 6. Award winners will be announced at the award ceremony, 7. Male participants, when participating in an ensemble, may not perform solo roles in the choreography, coherency and overall unity of the ensemble should be achieved. Rules For all participants 【 Violation of TGPIBC Rules and Regulations may result in disqualification】 • Participants may not be replaced by others, nor are they able to change names. • Participants may register for classical solo, contemporary solo, and/or ensemble. • The order of appearance and the competition schedule are determined by TGPIBC. Participants cannot request for changes after announcement. • Participants that fail to sign-in at the designated time will be disqualified. • If the jury board deems the participant’s performance not to meet their expectation, no awards will be given. Multiple awards may be possible. The jury board retains all rights to the final decision based on artistic consideration, and the rights to announce and change any award. Any complaints directing towards decision that concerns techniques will be disregarded. Any complaints with rules not specified in this section will be up to the jury board’s final decision. • All participants must acknowledge “TGPIBC” when mentioning or posting competition awards/certificates on published materials/websites/social media. • All participants should arrange insurance for themselves (medical and others), as be responsible for any chronic or long-term medical expenses. TGIBC is not responsible legally or medically should participants encounter any accidents or injuries during the competition. Please be responsible for your own safety, and agree to be responsible for the above risks. 2018 Taiwan Grand Prix International Ballet Competition 5 • Upon registration, participants agree that TGPIBC, its employees and instructors will not be responsible for any legal action, compensation, expenses, liability, damage, caused by physical injuries during the competition, and will not seek responsibility from TGPIBC. • TGPIBC retains the rights to change or cancel all items stated, including: competition arrangement, participant’s qualification, order of performance. • If the number of participants fails to meet the minimum competing number, the jury board has the right to cancel competition for that group. In that case, the registration fee would be refunded. • The most updated competition notification will be announced on the facebook page (Ex: natural hazards such as typhoon, earthquakes…etc). Individual notifications will not be available. TGP FACEBOOK PAGE: https://www.facebook.com/ballet.tgp • TGPIBC retains all rights to modify the rules and regulations, individual notifications will not be available. • Should there be discrepancies between the Mandarin Chinese and English Version, the Mandarin Version overrides. • Participants must prepare their participant’s pass and the true or copy version of their official ID (with name, age). Ex: national ID, passport, Insurance IC card…etc) • Solo participants that made into the final will have the opportunity to perform in the gala. • Classical solo participants are eligible to compete for scholarships. • Participants are not allowed to have experiences in a professional company, nor are they able to have signed/sign during the competition any yearly contract with a professional company for more than 26 weeks. Participant who violate this rule will be disqualified or their awards will be cancelled. Refunds for any paid fees will not be available. • TGPIBC retains all rights to announce award winners and use photos and videos during the competition for advertisements and published materials in the future. • TGPIBC accepts application on a rolling basis, the application closes on the deadline or when the number of participants have reached a maximum. • Please note that once the registration fee is paid, refund due to any reasons is not possible, and the fee cannot be used to register another participant. • TGPIBC retains the right to deny any registration application. • All participants must choose their repertoire from the list below. Participants from the classical solo group should consult classical variations from international professional companies. • All award winners must participate in the gala performance, they will receive

Therefore, the Fondation announces the new format for this year’s competition: The Prix de Lausanne will exceptionally be a Video Edition with a 9-member Jury present in Switzerland. Due to the sanitary situation and related restrictions, the Fondation en faveur de l'Art Chorégraphique has had to reinvent its main event but its priorities remain the same: providing opportunities for young talented dancers and fulfilling its mission as a charitable foundation. The Fondation is therefore pleased to announce that the 49th edition of its Prix de Lausanne, from January 31st to February 7th, 2021, will be a Video Edition. The event will require only the Jury’s 9-member presence on site in Switzerland. Every selected candidate will be able to demonstrate their talent and compete for a scholarship or apprenticeship via video submission and not in person in Switzerland. Classical and contemporary variations, as well as a ballet class, will be evaluated and marked separately. As in previous years, 20 finalists will be selected and judged at the end of the week, before the winners’ announcement during the Finals on Saturday, February 6th, 2021. The Prix de Lausanne’s Partner Schools and Companies will follow the competition week and will be able watch the videos privately through our Networking Forum and thus offer their support to all of the 81 candidates.

Dance Informa asked them about their background, favourite dancewear and food, and how they’re preparing for the competition.     Press release Prix de Lausanne 2012 40th international competition for young dancers from January 29 to February 4, 2012, at the Beaulieu Theater in Lausanne Lausanne, January 24, 2012: The Prix de Lausanne is celebrating its 40th anniversary. 40 years of excellence and passion in fostering the stars of tomorrow. Since 1973, the challenge launched by Philippe and Elvire Braunschweig, founders of the Prix de Lausanne, is met each winter with the same creative energy and artistic rigor. 79 candidates of 19 different nationalities were selected on the basis of the videos submitted by the 226 entrants and will be competing in Lausanne for a week. At the end of the selection round, on Friday, February 3rd, 20 candidates will have been chosen to perform in the finals on Saturday, February 4th. 8 of them will be leaving with a year-long scholarship to one of the 65 prestigious Prix de Lausanne partner schools and companies. The jury, composed of 9 personalities of the dance world, all prize winners of the Prix de Lausanne, will be presided by the Director and Choreographer of the Ballets of Monte- Carlo, Mr Jean-Christophe Maillot (prize winner 1977). In the finals, during the jury deliberations, the public will be able to admire three short performances danced by the students of the Royal Ballet School of London and the Royal Danish Ballet School of Copenhagen, both partner schools of the Prix de Lausanne. Born in Japan in 1984, she started ballet training at the Shanghai Dance School until she competed in the Prix de Lausanne during her last year at the school. Winning the competition, she was awarded one year of study at the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto, Canada. From there, she was accepted into the American Ballet Theatre in New York City where she performed and worked for fifteen years until coming to the Houston Ballet in 2014. She enjoys performing and being able to connect with the audience, in addition to giving back by coaching and mentoring aspiring young dancers. Setting: The interview was conducted at a study room in Fondren Library on September 16th, 2019. It lasted a little over an hour, and included Kajiya’s journey from Japan to China to Canada, and most recently to the United States as ballerina. Among the artistic collaborators, Nicolas Le Riche, Etoile of the Paris Opera Ballet and actual Director of the Royal Swedish Ballet, will be the coach for the male candidates’ variations. During the Interlude, the performance will be the 3rd edition of the Partner School Choreographic Project, choreographed by Mauro Bigonzetti, with 26 of the world’s best students reunited in Montreux for a unique creation, as well as a performance by dancers from the Royal Ballet School of London.     Press release Prix de Lausanne 2021 – Video Edition Results of the Selections International ballet competition Lausanne, February 5th, 2021: 20 candidates have been selected for the Finals of the Prix de Lausanne that will take place tomorrow, on Saturday February 6th, via video. During today’s Selections’ round, the 78 candidates from all around the world have presented their classical and contemporary variations via video. The 9 jury members were able to watch and mark each candidate the whole week through ballet class exercises. At the end of the Selections today, the Jury panel was able to make a choice after the classical and contemporary variations videos of each candidate. Different parameters were taken into account to assess the dancers’ potential: artistry, technical facility, talent, ability to give an imaginative and sensitive response to the music and to communicating clear movements, among others. They had to master the traditional classical repertoire as well as the contemporary creations of Kinsun Chan, Cathy Marston, Goyo Montero, Heinz Spoerli or Richard Wherlock. Introduction Ballet began as a Western classical dance genre 400 years ago and has evolved into an international performing art form. The word ballet comes from the Italian term ballare, meaning to dance. She produced what has become known as the first ballet, La Comique de la Reine, in 1588. Ballet at the French Court Louis XIV performed as a dancer and gained the title The Sun King after one of his most famous dancing roles. A patron of the arts, Louis XIV established the Academy of Music and Dance. In the next century the Academy would become the Paris Opéra. Court Ballets • During the 17th century, court ballets were dance interludes between dramatic or vocal performances or entire performances. • Sometimes ballets were part of themed balls such as pastoral or masquerade balls.
