What if it also showed you how to keep your dreams aligned with your gifts and abilities, and in tune with Biblical principles? What if that book were specifically designed for Millennials, but was crafted so that others could benefit immensely, regardless of faith or age? Imagine, too, that the writer accomplished all this while using clear and succinct language, inspiring examples, and maintaining a perspective that’s both realistic and practical. Could anyone write such a book? Steven Hitz has, and has done it superbly. Leadership by LIGHT deserves a very wide audience indeed. Craig L. Blomberg Distinguished Professor of New Testament, Denver Seminary The faith-based principles in this volume offer help and inspiration not only to those who have their lives “all put together,” but also to those experiencing a wide range of socio-economic risks including displacement, unemployment, isolation, crime, addiction, and extremism. Leadership by LIGHT offers solutions to everyone by teaching integration, empowerment, and self-reliance. Brian J. Grim Founder, Religious Freedom & Business Foundation In Leadership By LIGHT, Steve Hitz successfully empowers his readers with tangible ways to live wisely. Steve goes beyond inspiring; he takes on the role of a life coach. As he tells the compelling true stories of men and women who have lived well, he challenges his audience to pursue change. The simple yet 4 Leadership by LIGHT: Principles That Empower thought-provoking exercises and practices in this book will empower readers to reflect and take ownership of their lives and growth. Leadership by LIGHT is accessible, hopeful, and warm in its tone. I recommend it to individuals striving to live lives of intentionality. Jacintha Murphy Denver Seminary Millennial This book gives 20- and 30-somethings the guidance we need to live a balanced life. Leadership by LIGHT provides practical and easily accessible tools, coupled with faith-based principles, to make a whole and complete self. Cory Edwards Marketing Director, Adobe Millennial For a generation who often feels ill equipped and alone in life, Leadership by LIGHT serves as a helpful and practical guide for identifying and launching the leader within. In many ways, Leadership by LIGHT serves as the wise parental voice so many Millennials long for, but have never known. If you are in your 20’s and 30’s, this is a must read. David Hickman Author of Closer Than Close: Awakening to the Freedom of Your Union with Christ Founder, CHARLOTTE/ONE Praise for Leadership by LIGHT 5 I have heard it said that “change is inevitable, but progress is optional.” I have used this statement as a CEO and leadership/thought leader to motivate employees in large corporations. However, when I read Leadership by LIGHT: Principles That Empower, it occurred to me how this principle can be used in our personal lives. With a unique blend of leadership acumen and spiritual insight, Steve Hitz lays out a step-by-step approach for how we can progress in our personal lives—not just live out our days. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to seriously empower their personal progress. Rulon F. Stacey, Ph.D., FACHE Managing Director, Navigant Leadership Institute Chair, Board of Overseers, Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Leadership By LIGHT is a game changer for the Millennial generation and generations to follow. Its simple and precise language will help any reader across all disciplines of life to understand the value of living life to the fullest. This book will change lives around the world. I entreat you to get a copy and read it. Matthew Davis Refugee Education Counselor, Ghana, Africa Millennial Leadership by LIGHT is an inspirational and understandable guide to aligning your everyday life with your faith in order to discover and fulfill the divine purpose for which you are on this earth. The Formula to attain this transcendence is set forth in Leadership by LIGHT as a set of simple steps that, when combined, create a profound way to engage with one’s world. These steps can be applied at any stage of life, and throughout one’s entire life. Lisa Larsen Attorney 6 Leadership by LIGHT: Principles That Empower As a father and clinician, I witness the confusion and anxiety people experience when the world presents darkness as light. Leadership by LIGHT uses personal experiences and humor to help young people orient their daily lives to the only source of true light: timeless scriptural truths. This book offers practical tips that will help young people discover the joy of living out God's plan for their lives. Aaron Skalicky, Ph.D. Clinic Director, NeuroDevelopment Center of Colorado I highly endorse the book Leadership by LIGHT: Principles That Empower. It does what it sets out to do, namely, provide a precise framework for realizing one’s goals, ensuring they are God-centered and designed toward giving back to our communities. I found it interesting, easy to read, inspiring, and complete in its purpose. David Ottolenghi, MD Leadership by LIGHT is filled with practical wisdom that gives its audience direction on how to become successful in all areas of life. By following these basic principles and suggestions, readers are challenged to reflect, implement, and revise their lifestyle in order to live more abundantly. The book’s teachings are tastefully supplemented by scripture, motivating stories, and quotations from strong leaders who have gone before us. I strongly recommend this book to individuals looking for a starting point that will help them take control and get what they want out of life! Lauren Green School Counselor Millennial Praise for Leadership by LIGHT 7 Of the many on-target principles and practices Leadership by LIGHT teaches, one of the most powerful and time-tested is financial fitness. While it can be said that the Millennial generation faces unique financial challenges such as student loan debt and unstable financial markets, saving for present and future needs is still smart, no matter the generation. This book helps Millennials see that they can do it, even if just a little bit at a time. Being a wise steward of one’s money brings not only financial, but also spiritual, security. Bravo to Leadership by LIGHT for making the connection! Jim Sprout Chairman, Northern Colorado First Western Trust Leadership by LIGHT: Principles That Empower shares principles that allow individuals to take control of their destiny. It teaches how to plan and create a future that is in line with your individualized values and goals. Following the principles shared in the book allows one to achieve success by leveraging the power of God’s natural laws. While the Millennial generation is the target audience, the principles taught are universally applicable and resonate with people of all ages. Anyone who thoughtfully, sincerely, and consistently applies the formulas and principles contained in this book will find success in their lives and will feel the joy of knowing they are living in a manner that allows God to sanction and bless their efforts. Kenneth B. Allen Dentist Within the pages of this book you will find time-tested principles of success organized into a progressive pathway leading to the realization of your God- given potential.

Kosher Country: Success and Survival on Nashville's Music Row V Stacy Harris uring the last few years, Nashville's country music in- dustry has been mourning a larger number of its citizens Dthan usual. These losses included two, Norma Gerson ("makeup artist to the stars") and Rainbow Room owner/- erstwhile "Hee Haw" bit-player David "Skull" Schulman ("the mayor of Printers' Alley"), that underscore the little-known range and diversity of roles Jews have played in Nashville and country- music history. According to Karen B. Fine, Nashville's Jewish music indus- try population numbers "about 60 or 70."1 Few would characterize this minority as a vocal one. Indeed, when Life staff writer Charles Hirshberg wrote about the relationship between Jews and country music in the Forward, he titled the article "Nashville's Jewish Newcomers Assert Themselves (Softly)."2 Likening the reluctance of Jewish country-music industry participants to medieval Marranos who, Hirshberg believed, kept "their Jewishness private to protect their livelihoods," Hirshberg's observations of five years ago seem equally as dire in 1999.3 There would well be a justification for this. Country music's heritage is rooted in traditions of a Protestant-Christian America. Six years ago, this author wrote, "Most country artists have re- corded at least one album of sacred songs; indeed it is almost expected."4 112 SOUTHERN JEWISH HISTORY Nonetheless change may be imminent. With many more new artists and a younger listener base, this expectation no longer exists. While it still looks good for a country singer to have a press kit containing biographical information noting that the subject's earliest memories are of "hymns or more fervent gospel songs" and of his/her own performances in church, whether true or not, such references are increasingly less mandatory.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

  • The Library of Oregon State University
THE LIBRARY OF OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY ITS ORIGINS, MANAGEV1ENT, AND GROWTH A Centennial History by Nm. H. Carison CORVALLIS, OREGON1966 FOREWORD This history is, as will be evident throughout, a labor of love. Tithile the treatment is obviously sympathetic, I believe and hope that it is nevertheless objective. It has been a calculated decision not to use footnotes since these, while perhaps giving the history an aura of scholarlyaccuracy, would also have cluttered it up substantially. The sources used have been primarily correspondence and reports over the years supplemented by student publications and, since1923,the very helpful scrap book maintained by the Library. I assure anyone who might cavil at the lack of citations that all direct quotations usedare soundly and accu- rately based. For the Kidder years each surviving letter or other docu- inent has been individually inspected. I have been in the somewhat embarrassing position of having to record the history of my own time as Librarian. My first thought was to conclude the history with the Lewis years. It is at Mr. Waldron's suggestion that I have carried it to the present so that it could become a Centennial publication. I have tried, without leaning over backward, to treat my time in the Library, whichcovers one-fifth of its history, in the same manneras the earlier administrations. I sincerely hope I have been able to do this ina balanced way and with reasonable objectivity. Since I have necessarily had to write extensively about myself I both conclude this Foreword and introduce the History with the following lines modeled on but something more thana paraphrasing of Emily Dickinson's Letter to the World: This is a story I have come to know With increasing intimacy Told for these days and days to be Of a Library on its way to growing old For love of it dear Readers now And You I cannot see Judge tenderly of me.

We are very excited about the books that we are publishing between January and June, as they perfectly exhibit the range and quality of writing that has always characterized the Penguin Michael Joseph list. Alongside our new titles, it is with great pride and pleasure that we start 2021 with our brand new logo – our first in over twenty years. Michael Joseph, our founder, loved authors. In particular, he loved guiding them towards commercial success, bringing their brilliant stories to the wider world. In a time of great changes and challenges, what has always been of central importance to Penguin Michael Joseph continues to remain at the heart of all that we do: our dedication to our authors. Without them and their incredible talents, we wouldn’t be the vibrant, successful and dynamic imprint we are today, 85 years after we were born. So, it seems timely to refresh our visual identity to ensure we keep moving forward as a company: passionately striving for excellence, actively focused on increasing our inclusivity, continually creating bestsellers and, crucially, providing a home where all our authors feel welcomed, nurtured and celebrated. We’ve gone back to our beginnings to put the original mermaid logo right at the centre of our publishing – with a refreshed and modern take.

  • The Heart Ache and the Madness
The Heartache and the Madness Introduction On November 17th, 2016 I fell ill with a serious heart condition that required open heart surgery and long road to recovery after. The following pages describe what happened to me in more detail and are written from my own perspective with the missing gaps filled in mainly by what my dear wife, Sophie, told me afterwards. I have focussed on my time in hospital, but also touch on my further recovery at home. The reason for writing it all down is mainly to have an account of what happened for myself and my family and everyone else who took an interest and had some kind of involvement in my predicament and subsequent recovery. Timeline 10/12/2016 discharged from 25/11/2016 major LHCH open heart surgery 22/11/2016 diagnosed with a type A dissection of the aorta 19/11/2016 went to A&E 17/11/2016 problem occurred The above is a very simple timeline of what has happened to me and when – only a few pivotal points. A more detailed timeline summary is below: 17/11/2016 – problem occurred 18/11/2016 – went to work 19/11/2016 – went to A&E, was later transferred to Intensive care isolation room 21/11/2016 – cardiologist found heart murmur, Doppler, CT scan, suspected problem with heart valve 22/11/2016 – swallowed camera, type A dissection diagnosed, sedated and transferred to Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH), found too ill to operate on, potential chest infection 23/11/2016 – Sophie and Norma came to visit, no recollection Page | 1 24/11/2016 – Mabzi came to visit and I remember him saying “Sophie says she loves you very much” and also “we’ll have to go for a curry and a beer when you’re better” 25/11/2016 – 10-12 hour operation to repair the type A dissection of the aorta and an aortic valve replacement 26/11/2016 – Sophie, my mum, Catherine and Jessica came to visit, no recollection.
