Residential Handbook 2015–16 WELCOME
Residential Handbook 2015–16 WELCOME Welcome to University of Pittsburgh on-campus housing! Whether you are living in a residence hall, apartment-style accommodation, or fraternity complex, you are one of over 7,900 undergraduate students residing on campus, and your comfort and satisfaction are very important to us. It is our priority to ensure that your time in on-campus housing is one of many positive and rewarding experiences here at Pitt. The purpose of this Handbook is not only to provide you with a comprehensive reference for living on campus, but also to advise you of the policies for residing in University housing. This Handbook is not, and does not, create a contract. Upon electronically signing your Housing and Dining Services Contract (Contract), you agreed to, among other things, abide by the policies, rules, and regulations set forth in this Handbook and any other official University publications, including, but not limited to, the Student Code of Conduct and Judicial Procedures. Communal campus living can be a great college experience, but with your decision to do so comes a responsibility to abide by the rules necessary for the safety and enjoyment of all. With your cooperation, this goal will be met. This Handbook is divided into two sections. The first section (Everyday Living) addresses matters specifically related to your occupancy of University housing. The second section (Resources and Services) provides other useful information pertaining to the University. Each section has been organized alphabetically for easy reference. If you have any questions or need any additional assistance, please feel free to contact Panther Central at 412-648-1100, [email protected], or www.pc.pitt.edu. -

THE BIG BUSINESS of SPORTS TOURISM the National Association of Sports Commissions
AUGUST 4-10, 2014 SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION ❘ street & smith’s sporTSBUSINESS JOURNAL 25 THE BIG BUSINESS OF SPORTS TOURISM THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SPORTS COMMISSIONS Hosting amateur and collegiate tournaments and championship events is one of the hottest areas in sports business right now. And, cities, states and regions across the country have responded to the new demand for high quality facilities and amenities by providing innovative production strategies and spectacular new facility construction. In this special advertising section, we showcase some of the convention bureaus and sports commissions that are setting new standards for localities competing for these prize sports properties. From high school volleyball to NCAA championships, athletes, families and attendees have never had more and better choices for staging unforgettable events. THE BIG BUSINESS OF SPORTS TOURISM THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SPORTS COMMISSIONS Youth sports defy economic slumps Since the Great Recession of 2007, cities and events organizers have learned one truth — that youth and amateur sports tour- ism is recession resistant. The dollars parents spend for their kids and themselves to travel to sports tourna- ments and championships flow unabated, regardless of the economic climate. “Parents will forgo a regular family vaca- tion to make sure their child and his or her team go as far as possible in league play,” said Don Schumacher, executive director of the National Association of Sports Commis- sions (NASC). “Those families spend nights in hotels, fill restaurants and take in the local sights while attending a tournament. As cit- ies and organizers have come to realize that these dollars don’t go away, we’ve seen a shift from nonprofit events to more profit- minded organizations.” The NASC began in the late 1980s as an affiliation of sports commissions that came together to discuss the rising cost and com- petitiveness of bidding for amateur sporting events. -
Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association
OHIO HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION Dear OHSBCA Member, 1/20/11 Welcome to the 2011 OHSBCA State Coaches Clinic: “America’s Game”. The Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association has become the 2nd largest high school coaches’ association in the country. Coaches, national speakers, and vendors from all over the country feel that the Ohio High School Coaches Association Clinic is one of the best in the entire country. One of my favorite quotes comes from one of this year’s clinicians; John Cohen from Mississippi St. John speaks all over the country at not only big national conventions, but small ones too. He said, “Looking forward to seeing you at the clinic. You guys are first class and run an incredible clinic.” My hope is that you will feel the same after this weekend. I would also like to take time to welcome you to the Hyatt Regency, “Downtown Columbus”, and our home for the next few days. What an outstanding and first-class setting for one of the premiere high school coaches’ clinics. Please feel free to let any of the OHSBCA Board members or I know if we can personally help or assist you in any way this weekend while here at the clinic, or throughout the year. We, the board, wish to be the best representation of all our members’ coaches and their concerns. This weekend’s lineup consists of great speakers from all over the country. I thank each and everyone of you speakers for agreeing to come speak and promote this great game of baseball. -

Baseball Stadium Baseball will include a press box, team dugouts and hitting and pitching practice areas. Synthetic grass will extend the ability to practice and play throughout the year and lighting will allow for evening games. New Olympic Sports Facility Coming in 2010! Similar to the blueprint Pitt began cultivating in 2000 to entrench itself among the country’s finest universities, Pitt Athletics is intent on doing the same from a student-athlete perspective. Envisioned is a new complex that will provide state-of-the-art homes for Pitt baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s track and field. The complex will transform 12 acres of land at the peak of campus, not only giving Pitt student- athletes nationally competitive facilities, but also rejuvenating an untapped area that neighbors the University of Pittsburgh campus. The Olympic Sports Complex The Olympic Sports Complex will transform 12 acres of unused land into a major attraction for the kind of top-performing student-athletes who can elevate the quality of our Olympic sports programs while competing academically to achieve all that an education at the University of Pittsburgh has to offer. Combined with the premier venues of Heinz Field, the Petersen Events Center, the UPMC Sports Performance Complex, and the newly renovated Fitzgerald Field House and Trees Pool, this complex will offer students, parents and fans an enthralling sports experience that stretches from Oakland to the North Shore to the booming South Side. Track & Field Stadium The track and field stadium will be utilized for practice and competition, and be located on the site presently occupied by Pitt’s current baseball and softball fields. -
