Lord I lift your name on high Lord I love to sing your praises, I’m so glad you’re in my life, I’m so glad you came to save us, CHORUS: You came from Heaven to Earth, To show the way, From the Earth to the cross, My debt to pay, From the cross to the grave,

2

From the grave to the sky, Lord I lift your name on high.

THE GREETING: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.

KYRIE: In peace, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For the peace of the whole world, for the well- being of the church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord. Lord have mercy. Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. AMEN.

FIRST LESSON Genesis 32:22-31 The same night he got up and took his two wives, his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. He took them and sent them across the stream, and likewise everything that he had. Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he struck him on the hip socket; and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, "Let me go, for the day is breaking." But Jacob said, "I will not let you go, unless you bless me." So he said to him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." Then the man said, "You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed." Then Jacob asked him, "Please tell me your name." But he said, "Why is it that you ask my name?" And there he blessed him. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved." The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

PSALM 121 1. I lift up my eyes to the hills; from where is my help to come?

2. My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.

4

3. The Lord will not let your foot be moved nor will the one who watches over you fall asleep.

4. Behold, the keeper of Israel will neither slumber nor sleep;

5. the Lord watches over you; the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

6. the sun will not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

7. The Lord will preserve you from all evil and will keep your life.

8. The Lord will watch over your going out and your coming in, from this time forth forevermore.

O God, maker of heaven and earth, you help us in times of distress and watch over us day and night. Hold us securely in your mercy, that in the midst of fear and danger we may depend on you, our sure deliverer; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

SECOND LESSON 2 Timothy 3:14 – 4:5 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in 5 righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly urge you: proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths. As for you, always be sober, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, carry out your ministry fully.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: page 151 . Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia

THE Mark 1:1-13 The Lord be with you. And also with you. The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark. Glory to you, O Lord. The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way; the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight—” John the baptizer appeared in the 6 wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And there went out to him all the country of Judea, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, and had a leather around his waist, and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.” The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.

The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

THE OFFERING OF GIFTS

LET THE VINEYARDS BE FRUITFUL: Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord, and fill to the brim our cup of blessing. Gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown, that we may be fed with the bread of life. Gather the hopes and dreams of all; unite them with the prayers we offer. Grace our table with your presence, and give us a foretaste of the feast to come.

OFFERTORY PRAYER

GREAT THANKSGIVING: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is indeed right,…join their unending hymn: Holy, holy, holy Lord, Lord God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest.

8

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER: You are indeed holy, almighty and merciful God, You are most holy, and great is the majesty of your glory.

You so loved the world that you gave your only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life.

We give your thanks for his coming into the world to fulfill for us your holy will and to accomplish all things for our salvation.

In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. For as often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

9

Remembering, therefore, his salutary command, his life-giving passion and death, his glorious resurrection and ascension. and the promise of his coming again, we give thanks to you, O Lord God Almighty, not as we ought but as we are able; we ask you mercifully to accept our praise and thanksgiving and with your Word and Holy Spirit to bless us, your servants, and these your own gifts of bread and wine, so that we and all who share in the body and blood of Christ may be filled with heavenly blessing and grace, and, receiving the forgiveness of sin, may be formed to live as your holy people and be given our inheritance with all your saints.

To you, O God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory in your holy church, now and forever. Amen.

LORD’S PRAYER: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; 10

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

THE COMMUNION: Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; grant us peace, grant us peace.

COMMUNION HYMN There Is A Balm In Gilead Hymn#614

The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace. Amen.

THANKFUL HEARTS AND VOICES RAISE: Thankful hearts and voices raise; tell everyone what God has done. Let everyone who seeks the Lord rejoice and bear the name of Christ. Send us with your promises and lead your people forth in joy with shouts of thanksgiving. Alleluia, alleluia.

THE CANADIAN FOODGRAINS BANK committee from our two churches has arranged for 20 acres to be planted in corn. The name of the project will be St. Paul's Lutheran/Anglican Foodgrains Project. God willing, the project should be able to realize between 15 to 20 tonnes of corn which will raise conservatively $15 000. The Canadian government will match that at the rate of 4 to 1 or $60,000. That will mean our churches will have raised $75,000 to feed the hungry of the world. The committee needs to pay the rent, purchase the seed and sow, spray and finally combine the corn. We will be responsible for the costs incurred. The committee in advance would like to thank the congregation for their support. If you have any questions, feel free to ask any committee member. They are: Paul Voll, Robert Yungblut, Wayne Stoltz, Wayne Williams, Hugh Thompson and Pastor Ralph. Raffle tickets are available at 1 for $2 or 3 for $5 from members of the parish or the church office. 1st Prize – Handmade Quilt, 2nd Prize – Corey Conners Signed Picture, 3rd Prize – Scott Cherrey Signed NHL Linesman Jersey, 4th Prize - $25 Gift Certificate for the Listowel Golf Course.
