    DIVISION I 103 Outdoor Track and Field DIVISION I 2001 Championships OUTDOOR TRACK Highlights Volunteers Are Victorious: Tennessee used a strong performance from its sprinters to edge TCU by a point May 30-June 2 at Oregon. The Volunteers earned their third title with 50 points, as the championship-clinching point was scored by the 1,600-meter relay team in the final event of the meet. Knowing it only had to finish the event to secure the point to break the tie with TCU, Tennessee’s unit passed the baton careful- ly and placed eighth. Justin Gatlin played the key role in getting Tennessee into position to win by capturing the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Gatlin was the meet’s only individual double winner. Sean Lambert supported Gatlin’s effort by finishing fourth in the 100. His position was another important factor in Tennessee’s victory, as he placed just ahead of a pair of TCU competitors. Gatlin and Lambert composed half of the Volunteers’ 400-meter relay team that was second. TCU was led by Darvis Patton, who was third in the 200, fourth in the long jump and sixth in the 100.     USC TRACK & FIELD Times and marks for USC Track Athletes 1894 to 2018 INTRODUCTION This supplement booklet to the media guide is my effort to document every athlete who competed for the University of Southern California Track Team. Needless to say, I know everyone is not listed, but I did try. This booklet is a free download, but if you really like what you see here, I/we (Trojan Force) would be more than happy to accept any donation you’d like to send. That info will be at the end of this introduction. WHERE TO START? I wrestled with how to organize all this data knowing that the next person would have chosen a different format. But here it is, such as it is. With a men AND a women’s program we’re looking at some 6,000+ names who can be accounted for that competed for USC. This number doesn’t take into account all the relays as there are names on some of the relay teams that did not show up in any other results that I was able to find. Every effort was made to find a mark or time for every track athlete, but this just wasn’t possible. Athletes listed with no marks or times were the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in posted meet results. This booklet covers the years 1894 to 2018 for the men; the women’s supplement is still being “written” and I hope to have it done by the end of summer 2018. The early marks were gathered from posted results in the newspaper and the El Rodeo yearbook.

    OFFICIAL TEAM USA NEWSLETTER • VOLUME V, NUMBER 4 • OSAKA, JAPAN • AUGUST 28, 2007 WILLIAMS AND JETER GO 2-3 IN WOMEN'S 100; DAVIS GETS TJ BRONZE OSAKA, Japan – Thanks to a stunning women’s 100 meters and a fine performance in the men’s triple jump, Team USA brought its medal tally to 7 Monday night at the 2007 IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In easily the most dramatic race of the Championships thus far, Lauryn Williams (Miami, Fla.) initially looked as though she may have won her second world title in the women’s 100. The defending world champion, who has struggled since winning the 2005 world title, got off to an outstanding start and led the field at halfway. In the latter portion of the race, however, Olympic bronze medalist Veronica Campbell of Jamaica led a surge by the rest of the field, and five women – Williams, Campbell and Americans Carmelita Jeter (Long Beach, Calif.) and Torri Edwards (Corona, Calif.) and Belgium’s Kim Gevaert – crossed the line virtually simultaneously. But the gold was down to rivals Williams and Campbell, with Williams appearing to have won when seen with the naked eye. The scoreboard first flashed Edwards as the winner, which was clearly in error. Several more minutes passed before the final results were posted – Campbell first in 11.01 (-0.2 mps), which brought an audible gasp, and some gentle grumbling, from the crowd. Williams was listed as second in an iden- tical time. (Her photo finish time was .003 behind Campbell.) Jeter, who got her best start of the meet and employed her typical strong finish, was a sur- prising third in a personal-best 11.02, and Edwards was fourth in 11.05.

SAC Relays is set for April 19, 20 and 21, 2018 at Murdock Stadium, on the campus of El Camino College in Torrance, CA. Once again we expect over 5,000 high school, masters, community college, university and other champions from across the globe to participate. We look forward to your attendance. Due to security reasons, ALL MEDIA CREDENTIALS and Parking Permits will be held at the Credential Pick-up area in Parking Lot D, located off of Manhattan Beach Blvd. (please see attached map). Media Credentials and Parking Permit will be available for pick up on: Thursday, April 19 from 2pm - 8pm Friday, April 20 from 8am - 8pm Saturday, April 21 from 8am - 2pm Please present a photo ID to pick up your credentials and then park in lot C which is adjacent to the media credential pick up.     1924 Cambridge - June 13-14 As in 1920, all finals were held on the second day except the walk, with heats on the first day, while all semi-finals took place on June 14, except for the 400m hurdles. A number of athletes did not make the top-4 in the trials, but were nevertheless selected because of their consistency in previous competition, showing a far greater flexibility of approach than was to be seen after World War II. The principal athletes who benefited were: Loren Murchison, Leroy Brown, John Watters, Alan Helffrich, George Lermond, Alfred LeConey, William Comins, Ernest Oberst and Pat McDonald. The New York Times noted that there were 419 entries, compared with 259 in 1920. Timing was with 1/10th and 1/5th of a second watches. Times are shown in tenths of a second for uniformity of presentation.
