Floor 1 Julie Mehretu HOWL, eon (I, II) Ongoing

A commission comprising two large-scale abstract that explore the transformations of the Western landscape, from manifest destiny to the rise of global technology. JR The Chronicles of Opens May 23, 2019

On view in one of the museum’s free spaces, this soaring digital mural by artist JR depicts a cross-section of the daily life of nearly 1,200 people in San Francisco.

The first U.S. solo presentation of German artist Johannes Brus, this exhibition introduces his photographic experiments from the 1970s. snap+share transmitting photographs from mail art to social networks Mar 30–Aug 4, 2019

From 1960s and ‘70s mail art to the first cell phone photograph to selfies and Internet memes, visitors can trace the evolution of sharing photographs.

Vija Celmins’s subtle, exquisitely detailed “redescrip- tions” of the physical world—including oceans, desert floors, and night skies—distill vast, expansive distances into mesmerizing small-scale artworks.

A new installation by –based artist Rodney McMillian, whose work addresses issues of class, race, and gender in American political and social history.

Andy Warhol—From A to B and Back Again May 19–Sept 2, 2019

This retrospective of the always-relevant artist’s 40-year career includes drawings, paintings, films, video, and prints that reveal new complexities about one of the most inventive, influential American artists.

Floor 7 Suzanne Lacy We Are Here Apr 20–Aug 4, 2019

Explore the profound solo and collaborative work of the so­cially engaged artist Suzanne Lacy. This retrospective spans from her earliest feminist performances to her latest immersive video installations.

This exhibition continues across the street at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. A separate ticket is required.

Pat O’Neill Three Answers Apr 20–Aug 4, 2019

Experience film installations by Los Angeles artist Pat O’Neill. A pioneer of experimental cinema, he developed innovative techniques for radically altering and layering images in the pre-digital era.
