Colorado Springs, THE POSITION The Mountain School District 12, Colorado Springs, Colorado Board of Education, is seeking a highly qualified and fully certified Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2021. McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in association with the Colorado Association of School Boards, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates. The Qualifications The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The Board developed the following desired characteristics.

Leadership – An experienced leader in education who has served at the helm of a high-performance school district. Someone who demonstrates an ability to build and lead a team of staff and administration, working to create consensus through active listening, but also provides clear vision for success. A confident, compassionate leader who is a result driven problem-solver. A leader who has a master’s degree (Doctorate preferred). Communicator – A leader who speaks and writes at a professional level and uses this skill consistently to communicate with the board of directors and all stakeholders including staff, parents and community partners. A personable leader who enjoys being with people in the community who is accessible and accountable to all. A person who can guide divergent issues toward solutions with firmness and dignity. A person who will live in the district. Educator – A curriculum leader who has taught in the classroom, served as a leader and mentor of teachers. A leader who has a demonstrated track record of excellence in education and understands how to use district resources to support the pedagogy of the learner. A leader who enjoys kids and enjoys the task of building a supportive and encouraging environment where all kids can thrive. A data driven leader who knows how to build an efficient/effective system of continuous improvement focused on the needs of every learner. Accountable - A leader with business acumen who understands Colorado school finance and Colorado school law. A leader who empowers staff and holds them accountable. It is situated at the base of the eastern boundary of the Rocky Mountain’s , with the iconic Pikes Peak to the west of the city and the rolling plains extending east. An application for superintendent should include:

 A letter setting forth personal qualifications, experiences and reasons for interest in the position.  A current résumé.  A completed application form.  Reference letters, certificates and licenses, and academic transcripts from colleges/universities indicating degree(s).

Candidates are asked not to directly contact board members. Any effort to do so may eliminate them from consideration. Names of applicants will be held in strict confidence whenever possible; however, McPherson & Jacobson complies with individual states’ Freedom of Information laws. In the final process, the school board may visit the district where the candidate is employed, but will not proceed without the knowledge and consent of the candidate.
