During your interview on CNN today, you made false, slanderous statements that have threatened the safety of my family, my staff and me. During the interview, the CNN host asked you whether rioters received advanced reconnaissance tours to help carry out the illegal acts that took place on January 6th at the U.S. Capitol stating, “I want to ask you about something specific because several of your colleagues have alleged that the rioters may have received inside help, including raising the prospects of tours, conducted or with the ok, of fellow sitting Members of Congress. This is quite a charge to make. Have you seen any hard evidence to substantiate that allegation?” You responded that you saw me giving a Capitol tour to a large group between January 3rd and January 6th and made clear that you believed this was a reconnaissance tour led by a Member of Congress that you witnessed stating, “The only thing I’ve seen, Congressman Yarmouth refreshed my recollection yesterday, we saw Congressman Boebert taking a group of people for a tour sometime after the 3rd and before the 6th.

  • Brownback Picks Jacob Laturner As New State Treasurer Body
Page 1 of 2 Brownback picks Jacob LaTurner as new state treasurer Brownback picks Jacob LaTurner as new state treasurer The Wichita Eagle (Kansas) April 18, 2017 Tuesday Copyright 2017 The Wichita Eagle All Rights Reserved Section: politics_government Length: 580 words Byline: Jonathan Shorman The Wichita Eagle Dateline: TOPEKA Body Sen. Jacob LaTurner of Pittsburg will be the new state treasurer, replacing Ron Estes, who won the 4th District congressional special election last week. In picking LaTurner, Gov. Sam Brownback chose someone who has been a reliably conservative vote in the Legislature. This session, LaTurner has sided with the governor on taxes and Medicaid. LaTurner's departure could alter the dynamics of the Senate, depending on who replaces him. Republican leaders in LaTurner's district will gather in the coming days to choose his successor. LaTurner will also be among the youngest statewide officials in Kansas at 29. "What I commit to Kansans is I'm going to surround myself with wonderful people and work very hard and Kansans are going to be able to receive quality services," LaTurner said. LaTurner called the position "humbling and exciting." He said he plans to run for a full term in 2018. The state treasurer manages a college savings program, runs an effort to return unclaimed property and provides general administrative oversight of state finances. The position typically attracts little controversy. While the state treasurer is elected, the governor has the power to appoint a new treasurer if the position is vacated. "I know Jake to be a fine man, a skilled public servant and a fiercely loyal Kansan," Brownback said.

  • TO: Interested Parties FR: Dan Sena, DCCC Executive Director DT: April 3, 2018 RE: Take It Back: Democrats Have Clear Advantage in New District Polls
TO: Interested Parties FR: Dan Sena, DCCC Executive Director DT: April 3, 2018 RE: Take it Back: Democrats Have Clear Advantage in New District Polls It’s game time. Month by month, week by week, primaries will produce battle-tested and uniquely qualified Democratic candidates. And vulnerable House Republicans will be forced to face reality: According to a sample of newly released polling data from a wide variety of districts, Democrats are poised to take back the House. Since the start of the cycle, the grassroots backlash against the Republican agenda has been fierce. Each day since, President Trump and Speaker Ryan’s Congress have given voters motivation to organize, fight, and win. Voters are fighting to take back respect, stability, affordable healthcare, economic security, and a safe and stable future for both their parents and their children. While motivations vary, the American people will keep marching, protesting and ultimately voting to take back the House. The DCCC has built the largest battlefield in modern history – over 100 districts and counting. We invested in the grassroots, local organizers, and robust voter contact earlier than ever before. Most importantly, we recruited and empowered Democratic candidates who fit their districts and have records of service to their communities and our country that resonate with voters. These Democrats are running deep into the battlefield, and their candidacies are breathing new energy into the party. These Democrats’ strength as campaigners matches their inspiring work and life stories. They’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with key progressive groups to sharpen the backlash against Republicans for their destructive agenda, particularly the healthcare repeal effort and tax scam that benefits the rich and big corporations instead of middle class Americans.

HealthyElections.org Post-Election Day Scenarios October 27, 2020 Abstract: Confronted with likely delays in counting an unprecedented number of mail-in ballots, close vote counts in key battleground states, the prospect of allegations of election fraud, and an intensely polarized political climate, the United States faces the possibility of highly contested election results on and after November 3. This paper explores some unlikely but conceivable scenarios that could emerge, such as a state legislature's appointment of a slate of electors before the state’s popular vote is fully counted, a Congress faced with two conicting slates of electors from the same state, and the death of a presidential candidate. • Can the President Cancel Or Postpone the General Election? ______
CAN THE PRESIDENT CANCEL OR POSTPONE THE GENERAL ELECTION? ____________________________________________________________ Summary: Unlike the primaries, which are governed by state law and take place on different dates across the country, federal law—which only Congress can change—sets November 3rd as the date of the general election. The president has no authority to change this date. The Constitution also significantly limits the ability of Congress to delay choosing the next president, even if it wants to—as under no circumstance can any president’s term be extended past noon on January 20th without amending the Constitution. ➢ The U.S. Constitution and Federal Law Require That the Election Be Completed by Early January Presidential elections in the United States are governed by a combination of the U.S. Constitution and federal, state, and local laws. The overall timing of the general presidential election is governed primarily by federal law, but also constrained by the Constitution.1 The actual mechanics of conducting the election are governed primarily by state and local law. The president is technically chosen by the Electoral College, which is composed of electors from each state.2 The Constitution provides that each state “shall appoint” its electors for president “in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct.” U.S. Const. art. II, § 1, cl. 2. That means that the fifty states and the District of Columbia have the ability, through their legislatures, to decide how to choose the electors who will participate in the Electoral College.
