What if you don’t know what your passion is, or if you have one? What if you have no idea where to start? You’re not alone, and there’s hope. Here comes design thinking! Borrowing the creative, iterative thought process used by designers of all kinds, design thinking helps you to start small by following your curiosity to identify possibilities, gather real-life information, and test your options to craft a flexible, creative career plan. Join Mary Ryan, associate director for career & leadership services for this thought-provoking session. 10:4 5–11:45 am Assemble Care Packages for Pediatric Cancer Patients at UNC Children’s Hospital with UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Business Cares Program McColl Building, Room 3600 / UNC Kenan-Flagler gives back to the community in a variety of ways, but most prominently through its Business Cares Program. Business Cares, announced in 2014, is a strategic and innovative program of philanthropic support for local non-profit organizations. The initiative focuses on three charities dedicated to children’s health including UNC Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill, and Super Cooper’s Little Red Wagon Foundation. Come listen to two representatives from these local organizations and assemble care packages for pediatric cancer patients at UNC Children’s Hospital. 10:45 a m–12 pm Manufacturing Confidence: Using Improv to Be More Authoritative / with Greg Hohn Kenan Center, 3rd Floor Reading Room / You have the expertise, now how do you deliver it powerfully and authoritatively? Lunch provided. 1:3 0–2:30 pm Emotionally Intelligent Leadership / with Lisa Mashburn McColl Building, Room 2250 / According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report , emotional intelligence will be one of the top 10 job skills in 2020. Why? Because people who show an enhanced ability to adapt to change, manage their emotions, and work well with a diverse range of people are often the most valuable players in organizations. Drawing on research in emotional intelligence, as well as real-life experience with proven techniques and real people, we will look at emotional intelligence competencies, do an EQ self-evaluation, and learn ways to increase EQ for you and your teams.
