    1 Chairman’s Welcome I would like to welcome everyone to the 2017 Disability Sport Fife (DSF) Annual General Meeting and Awards Evening. This year is a landmark year for the Association as it is our 40 th anniversary year and I’m sure Richard, when he sat in a meeting room in the old Fife Sports Institute in 1977, never dreamed he would be here tonight celebrating the success of so many athletes and coaches. The foundations of DSF are the weekly sports sessions which have continued to grow in number throughout the year and the Association is indebted to the coaches and volunteers who offer so much of their time and expertise to those sessions. Just recently we have had another successful Annual Sports Festival, which continues to be supported by Fife Council and the Fife Sports and Leisure Trust through our Service Level Agreement. DSF acknowledges the enormous support we receive from Fife Council and the Leisure Trust throughout the year in many different ways. DSF once again had a successful year in national events organised by Scottish Disability Sport. The third successive team win of our athletes at the SDS Senior Track and Field Championships and the achievements of Fife performance and Para bowlers throughout the year are particular highlights. Many thanks to the member organisations and coaches for their time and effort preparing Fife teams and individual athletes for these events. DSF continues to address the regional development arm of performance sport in Fife and the now well established High Performance, Performance and Development Squads which support individual members at various stages of their sporting development have had success in major events throughout the year.

    A SCOTTISH GOLF PIONEER DEVELOPS THE WEST IN AMERICA GOLF COURSE ARCHITECT WILLIAM WATSON 1860-1941 By Dean Knuth William Watson Circa 1920 at age 60 William Watson was an early pioneer in golf course architecture who immigrated from Fife, Scotland to America in 1898. In a successful career he had designed more than 100 golf courses by his retirement in 1929 when the Great Depression began. Many golfers know of Donald Ross and Alister Mackenzie but haven’t heard of Watson, yet many of his courses have survived close to a century or more. Minikahda Club in Minnesota was his first U.S. design and also his first job as head golf professional. He was prolific and a success in California. A number of his other best-known designs have hosted major USGA and PGA National Championships, including Harding Park, San Diego Country Club, the original Brentwood Country Club, Diablo Country Club, Berkeley Country Club and Orinda Country Club. He designed the original The Olympic Club Lake and Ocean courses plus many others which unfortunately did not survive housing developments on land that became more valuable as America grew. He was guided by the primary goal of maintaining naturalness in his designs. Watson wrote:, “A good rule is to stress the importance of fitting in all grading work to harmonize with the surrounding territory, mounds, slopes, grassy hollows, sand pits, all have their values in beautifying the setting of our greens and in giving them distinctive definition — if artificially arranged without appearance of artificiality.” He also believed that a course is more interesting if every green has a character all its own, giving the player something besides the flag to view in approaching the hole.

Welcome and Apologies Rona welcomed the attendees. Apologies came from Elspeth Wallace, Gary Anderson, James Martin. 2. Minutes from last meeting The minutes of the last meeting on 5th December 2019 were approved; being proposed by Gillian Paton and seconded by Mandy Strachan. 3. Matters Arising FSLT outlined current survey running ‘Every Visit You Make Counts’, which has been circulated by EFSC to members and on FB. Once the results of the survey are collated these will be used to progress discussions with the local community - users and clubs - about facilities. EFSC Secretary to communicate with members about progress. Young Persons Panel – Mark Smith summarised meeting and comments he and Gillian Paton not happy to proceed without PVGs. East Ayrshire Sports Council have had a Junior Sports Council since start of 2018, which has 9 members aged 12-25 and which meets regularly to discuss what young people are looking for in sport in their areas. One member is elected to attend the Sports Council meetings to deliver reports. They apply for funding and have taken appropriate training in CWPS.

    BELL BAXTER HIGH SCHOOL Weekly Update Monday 9th March, 2020 WHOLE SCHOOL MESSAGES Coronavirus I understand many people may be feeling anxious as we continue to hear about the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). However, despite the precautionary measures that governments and local authorities are now taking, health professionals are reminding us that the risk to individuals remains low. Public health advice is clear that schools do not need to close and pupils should attend as normal. Fife Council is working closely with Fife Health & Social Care Partnership, NHS Fife and Health Protection Scotland to monitor and respond to the national situation. I’m in regular contact with Fife’s Headteachers and we will continue to work with health agencies to make sure we’re giving schools the most up to date advice. The safety and wellbeing of everyone in our schools community is always our top priority. If your family has travelled in an affected area, follow the NHS advice and contact your school if you need to self-isolate. Please be aware that speculation is rife about the coronavirus and not everything you read online or in newspapers may be accurate. The most up to date information can be found at www.nhsinform.scot/coronavirus. The main things we can all do to help prevent the spread of viruses like this is to: avoid direct hand contact with your eyes, nose and mouth wash hands with soap and water regularly throughout the day, particularly: o after coughing or sneezing o after going to the toilet o before eating and drinking cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing with disposable tissues and dispose of them in the nearest waste bin after use avoid direct contact with people that have a respiratory illness and avoid using their personal items such as their mobile phone All our schools will be promoting these basic hygiene messages with children and young people.

    Annual Accounts 2019-20 Scottish Charity Reference SC048722 Disability Sport Fife (SC048722) Annual Review 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020 The Board of Charity Trustees of Disability Sport Fife (SCIO) has successfully completed year one of operation with a review of membership categories, satisfactory upskilling of the Trustees and the introduction of more efficient ways of operating. The introduction of online banking has improved the financial efficiency of the charity immensely and even stronger ties with Fife Sports and Leisure Trust have improved our financial position. The Get Out Get Active (GOGA in Fife) programme supported by Spirit of 2012 has come to an end after three years and its legacy is far reaching and exciting. Active recreation is now firmly embedded in the DSF (SCIO) constitution as well as sport and this is a direct result of GOGA. DSF (SCIO) is much more inclusive in ethos and practice and reaching out to more diverse communities because of GOGA. The DSF data base includes information on over 700 members of all ages and abilities with physical, sensory or learning disabilities because of the GOGA initiative. Succession planning and robust fundraising has enabled DSF (SCIO) to continue with all the participation initiatives established through GOGA. GOGA influences are here to stay in Fife. DSF weekly sessions continue to thrive and remain the cornerstone of our movement. GOGA influences have led to higher attendances and a wider range of participant interests. Successful negotiations with Fife Sports and Leisure Trust have led to the employment of additional coaches and extra facility space.
