Although the job report is showing the first signs of a recovery with the reopened economy, the job market remains in a deep hole with more jobs lost during the 14.9% pandemic than in the Great Recession or dot-com bust. Los Angeles County’s May unemployment rate reached 20.9%, far exceeding Vacancy Rate the statewide average of 16.3%, and the highest unemployment rate the county has experienced since record keeping began in the mid-1970s - the previous record was 12.6% in October 2010.
