CERT Basic Training 1-3 Unit 1: Disaster Preparedness CERT History ● Idea of CERT – Mexico City Earthquake of 1985 ● Implemented by LAFD in 1985 ● FEMA adopted/expanded into National Program ● All 50 States, 3 Territories and numerous foreign countries have adopted CERT. CERT Basic Training 1-4 Unit 1: Disaster Preparedness Walnut Creek CERT History ● CERT program implemented in Walnut Creek in 2006 ● CERT areas of responsibility established in 2007 and Area Coordinators appointed ● CERT Area “Cache” program proposed and adopted in 2008 ● CERT volunteer training assumed by Walnut Creek volunteers in 1/2009 ● 1,450 CERT volunteers trained to date in 2014 ● Eight caches ICS teams established to date in 2014.
